After Market Automatic Headlights for 2005 Base

I just gave my son a 2005 Mustang Base when he turned 16. He has been so used to driving our cars with auto headlights, that he can't ever remember to turn his lights on. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement switch to switch it out to automatic lights?

Not a clue, but I'd think you'd need the switch and some sort of sensor so the lights know when it's dark enough to turn on. I'm sure there's a kit on ebay

Im sure you know but even with DTR lights, you still need to turn them on at night.

Have you tried a junk yard? Or even ask AM?

Google that part number, and that should get you started on your search. Be aware that there will be lots of splicing involved. You can't just swap the headlight switch out.

Awful lot of work to prevent retraining. Taught my son to drive my GT and always turn the lights on for safety day or night, not just for being able to see at night. Now he drives his the same lights on all the time....

I wasn't gonna get into that. But if he can't realize that he can't see while he's driving, then maybe he shouldn't be driving.

I've never understood this issue...

I installed Auto headlights in my 07. I got a kit from e-bay made by Directed Electronics - but not sure if they still sell that kit. Basically this kit had a photocell to mount on the dash, some electronics to sense the light and a relay that energized on low light. I ran the normally open relay contacts across terminals 7 & 9 on the 10 pin light switch connector (black and Brown/White Stripe). I also installed an On/Off switch to power the kit just in case it screwed up. There were other connections in the kit - like an input from the wipers to turn on the headlights but I didn't want that. Also there was a parking light relay in the kit but I found that just jumpering terminals 7 & 9 did the trick and turned on all required lights including the dash lights - just as if I turned the lights on. I really like having Auto headlights. I hope this helps. The key is where to install the Normally Open relay terminals. Good luck

Just a heads up - my 07 is a Canadian car with Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Not sure if that will make a difference in the 7-9 jumpering of the light switch.

There is also a post here (page 6 right now) with instructions on how to connect the kit. Search for "automatic headlights".
