Glad I found this guide. I will be piecing together my parts list shortly.

I actually want to install this into a carbon center console:

Looks like buying the lower console piece might be ruled out?

The lower console will provide the holes needed for the back LEDs as well as a larger opening to allow the new cup holders to fit as well. If you are ok with cutting, you can modify an old one.

Do you know if it would be at all possible to modify the light ring to fit inside of the stock cup holders? Perhaps by drilling a couple holes, and slimming it down some. I'm looking for a cheaper way to do this mod, and if I don't have to buy a new console, that would save me a few hundred. Do you know of any where to buy these parts for decent prices? I checked Tousley Ford parts, and they're reasonably priced, though shipping to Calgary might not be.

Thanks for your help!

Check the wreckers. Black Gold here by Edmonton was wrecking a 2008 Shelby that had the ambient lighting. The parts should be quite cheap through the wreckers.

Took your advice, and found a complete ambient lighting kit, with the upper console, light ring, controller, front leds all for 120 bucks! I had a trip planned to vernon BC this week, and checked the nearby wreckers, and found this awesome deal. Thanks again, I will be following your install guide this weekend

Installed my used kit a few days ago, and it looks awesome. I'm having one problem though, I'm stuck with blue. The button no longer seems to work. I tested the whole kit on my bench power supply before installing it, and it scrolled through the seven colours flawlessly, but as soon as I plugged it in to my car, the button just stopped working. Nothing could have been shorted, I made sure of it.

I have ordered a new button from Ford, so hopefully that is the cause, and not the much pricier processor. I will let you know what happens when the button comes in next week. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for all the help in this thread!

Oh, by the way, I didn't have to do any cutting of my lower console in my 07, the upper just dropped right in as if it were made for it.

So it is on all the time? You can't even turn it off?

Strange. I'd pull it out again and bench test it before going any further.

I did that right after I found the error in the car, hooked it up to my power supply, and still didn't work. On my bench it seemed that with ever 100 rapid fire button presses it would switch colours, but now that it's in my car, that doesn't even work any more.

If it stays on blue permanently - can't even shut it off, then I say you may be right. It is the button, or the plug going to the button.

You checked to make sure all the pins in the plug are clean and making contact I assume?

To help you out, these are what the different pins on the plug to the switch are for:

pin #2 = power
pin #3 = illumination power
pin #4 = ground
pin #6 = switching colours

Hope this helps.

Yup, checked the pins and the button does light up, which kind of worries me that it could be more than the button itself. Hopefully not though.

Thanks for posting that, but I even tried by passing the switch all together, by making contact with the power wire and the wire that switches the colour, which again makes me worried that it's the processor, or perhaps just finicky digital electronics that don't like being bypassed, I don't know
