Always on... with the headlamps/parking lamps, right? Dash board lights have to be on for these. Ok, thanks!

Always on as long as the key is turned on, or to the accessory position. You could wire it so it only goes on with the headlights, though. I just wired mine the way Ford has it.

Just curious, how much did the individual parts run you... I was wondering how much this conversion is because I really like the figure 8 illumination in the cupholder over the single LED.

It isn't cheap - only for those nuts that only go for the 'factory look' - like me.

From Partscheap.com
7s4z 13e701 ae lamp covers $30 for 4
7s4z 13c788 a processor $35
8r3z 13d806 ba switch $15
8r3z 14a318 aa clear ring w/ wiring and LEDs $60
8r3z 14a411 b wiring and LEDs for the front $25 for 2
8r3z 14a411 c wirng and LEDs for the rear $30
8r3z 6313562 a cup holder $10
8r3z 63044d90 ba upper console $190 (the really expensive partof the whole thing)
8r3z 63045a36 bc lower console $65 (optional?)

Cheers

Yeah it looks like the major parts I need, the upper console and figure 8 clear ring with LED's are the priciest pieces to make the conversion for the cup holders. I will probably leave it the way it is, figure 8 glow ring or not... I am just not crazy about the extra switch on the console surface.

If you actually download the directions for that kit ... it is nothing like the factory option ...

its wierd, somethings are cheaper to get as an OEM option (HID's $483.50 option, alot more for steeda(?) conversion, ambient lighting standard on 09 premium) and some things arent worth it at all (trip tunes $272, mobile ease $374)

While its true everything costs less to order in the car from the factory (they have the parts in bulk), but the price you listed for the HID's isn't correct. You MUST order the GT Secuirty Package for 2009 (was the AAT for 2008) to get the HIDs as an option. And the price of the HIDs are $525 and add for the Security Pkg which is $375. That totals $900. Steeda charges $1,000 and thats not really too bad.

Thank You Jim010 !!!

hey Jim010,

a fine job on blazing the Ambient Lighting Trail !!!

using your guide on this forum, I was able to successfully install the 2008 Ambient Lighting option on my 2007 Shelby GT.

I ended up searching high and low on the internet to obtain the male side pigtails to dirrectly connect to the 6 pin auto trany (wpt444) , 4 pin (wpt222) led lights, and cup ring wire harness; however, was bummed to find the 10 pin connector (wpt541) for cup ring wire harness was not the right part as I hoped and did not fit. Will attach pics of the connectors. Note on these male pigtails, the pin numbers can actually be read on the connector with a magnifying glass, which helps sort out these dirrections immensly !

The only trouble I ran into was that the SJB (smart junction box) in my car was located on the right side of the passenger footwell and the #5 pin wire to tap into on my car was actually purple.

other than that the instructions are very well described and right on the dime.

I went through my local Ford Dealer to get these parts and they were getting scarce at that time. Also, they cost quite a bit more at the dealer, so if you can obtain them from the company noted at those prices listed, do it !!!

I want to thank you Jim010 for putting this installation guide together for us. I, along with my Ford Parts guys could have never figured this one out without your guide !

You did a fantastic Job !!!

Thanks again,

james/shelbygt07

4/14/11 - am posting a link to the Motorcraft Catalog many of these Pigtails can be found on.

O'Rielly's may be able to special order these for you...

hope that helps

No problem.

Glad this was helpful.

I had another fellow from Texas who also did this.

I think that 1 part number would be 1 light, but I no longer remember. You will need to check this.

Hi, I have a 2008 GT, and have just started working on this project myself. I purchased all the parts from the parts list on the first page of this post, and got to work last night.

My car seems to be pre-wired for ambient lighting, and already has the my color dash lighting as well. I found, before buying the parts, that I have 2 empty plugs up in the drivers and passenger footwells, as well as empty plugs under the console. This is where I'm at:

I installed the processor, clear ring, switch, lower console rear LED's and harness, and connected everything, including the big plug that was open under the cup holder area. Everything connected to their pigtail connectors perfectly, but I was left with one pigtail connector open, and without anything to connect it to. I left it alone, and put the console back together. I installed the front LED's into the factory holes under the glove box, and drivers side footwell. The pigtails on the front LED's connected perfectly to the open connectors that were already pre-wired under the dash of my car.

I turned the key one, and have perfect operation of the rear LED's and cup holder clear ring. All the colors change perfectly, and everything seems to function as it would from the factory.

The trouble I'm having is the front LED's.... They come on, but are fairly dim and they flash from time to time. The left footwell is also, only red, the passenger, only green. Some color selections they go off completely.

At first I thought I was having problems with the LED's themselvs, but now I'm wondering about that open plug without a home under the cup holder. It is part of the wiring harness, so it seems some accessory should be plugging into it. The big plug does have wires that run forward, leading me to believe they were going to the front LED's, but now I'm thinking that I need to add a plug somewhere, and that the front LED's are not getting propper power, and ground to function correctly. The wierd thing to me is that they do light up, so the pigtails that are under the dashboard that they lug into must be powered and working..... There sure are a bunch of wires under there.....HELP

Thanks,
Todd
