What Are My Options With Gta Hood Scoop

I'm coming up on my first anniversary with the 07 vert. I'm thinking that this car is a keeper, at least for a couple of more years.
I'm at a point now where I'd like to know what to do with the GTA hood scoop. 1. Has anyone had success with converting it to a functional scoop? 2. What's the story with the shaker, can it be successfully modified to to replace the GTA scoop without major surgery to the hood? 3. How about removing the scoop, and redoing with stripes over the hood? It has the GT/CS striping on the sides. I'm not crazy about the rear spoiler either. The local bodyshops are talking $600-$800 to remove and redo the Redfire paint. 4. Any other options? I'm not keen about a fiberglass replacement. I had a number of problems with stress cracks with older Corvettes. Frankly, I still haven't seen one that really catches my eye. Thanks for you help! |
Rear spoiler is supposedly "easy" but, that's not my opinion. I bought a real Ford V6 pony spoiler already painted my color for less then 100 delivered.
After spending about 30 mintues with a high speed hair dryer I can not get one side of the GT wing lifted. If you want a GT 500 spoiler painted, still pretty cheap on ebay at 300. The front is a different problem. Shaker you gotta cut the hood. I have seen no GTAP conversions to functional. You could go carbon fiber but, comes in one color (black). Since I want to keep all my parts stock I would suggest a fiberglass hood and set your factory one aside, unmolested. Keep us posted! |
I think you can install a shaker and not have to worry about any holes left over from the scoop. I have a Roush scoop and it is bigger than the GTA scoop and I would have had to fill a couple of holes. Not sure though~

Unless there's a new version out that I don't know about, the cutout for the CDC shaker will not work. You would still have holes left from the hood.

This came from Factory Take-Offs. It took me about 15 mins to swap them out. Take the (4) nuts off of the mounting studs, then lift firmly on the factory spoiler. While lifting, take a small hook tool (Master Mechanic) and cut away at the exposed adhesive (double sided tape) that is sandwiched between the spoiler and the trunk. If it takes you 1/2 hour and you don't scratch your trunk, then why hurry? |

Just get a take-off redfire hood brand new without the holes, cheaper then fixing the stock one properly. Using those holes warps the metal just enough its almost impossible to fix. Carefully keep the packaging and re-sell your existing hood.
