Tax time-- new hood time
 

So lets get some opinions on replacement hoods. I have been looking at hoods and thinking of hoods for about two years while my stock hood slowly rotted away (thank you Ford). Anyway I have really been thinking of a Steel hood or aluminum hood. I see lower priced aluminum hoods and wonder if they can be any good? I know if you get a cheep fiberglass hood your gonna spend hours and hours prepping it. Could this be the same with an aluminum hood? Anyone have experience with aftermarket hoods? I've seen Alum hoods from $450 to 1,000. I just don't know...:dunno:

The best aluminum hood that I have seen is the Foose hood. I bought Cervinis fiberglass Concept ram air hood for my 2007 Mustang GT last year. It works well with my Western Motorsports cold air intake.

How much prep work went into that Cervinis hood? I found some of the Foose hoods on Ebay. They look like "Take off" hoods. They are painted but in good shape... and if remember right they are cheap!

I bought my hood painted by Cervinis. I had to wait six weeks for it to be shipped.

All I had to do was unbolt the old hood and bolt on the new hood.

I've always loved that hood.

You can't go wrong with a Foose hood as they are aluminum and use the stock hood frame. I installed one on my car 5 years ago and it still looks great. This hood is about your only option if want aluminum as the only other one was the Saleen and they are almost impossible to find... and when they do pop up, they are not cheap.

I love the cervini cobra R hood. Comes pre painted for about $1000. Plug and play and its got great reviews. Don't forget its also lighter so you may feel a little more power from the ponies!

I've been looking at hoods for a while and tried to check them out at shows. From what I've seen the fiberglass hoods all weigh more than factory or other aluminum hoods.


How is it that the foose aluminum hood doesn't suffer from the same paint problems as the factory? Better prep and sealing? It uses the factory underskin.


I've seen some cervini hoods in person and they are supposed to be the best fiberglass and yet I've seen some that are wavy, have cracks near the pins and have some unfinished edges in the holes on the underside for venting. I wasn't impressed. Am I expecting too much?
