I have had serveral people tell me that the rear lower quarter panels on the mustangs chip real easy from rocks and debris from the rear wheels. I've seen a few mustangs with the plastic rear molded "mud flaps" but I really don't like the looks of them. Has anyone had a problem with the real quarter panel's chipping due to rocks, etc..........Also, has anyone tried that clear vynal protectant film that can be applied to these areas that are in danger of being chipped??????

forgot to mention that the 3m Paint protection works great for things like this. I have ordered some and will put it on my car after it has been painted.

My rear quarter panel gets a lot of gunk and tar stuck to it from the wheels kicking up debris. So the problem is definitely there, it all depends on how you want to solve it. If it does the trick I really don't care what it looks like. If I were to see a Mustang owner with flaps I wouldn't say he was uncool. Just means he cares about his car enough to do something about it.

Perhaps some molded ones that are the same color as the body?

I've seen some on coupes and sedans and it looked pretty good. Can't say I've ever seen one on a 'stang.

Geez my chips are in the front and a few on the hood - I have NOTHING behind the wheels, even after the wider Nittos went on.....
Then again, I don't drive on any road with that are not paved down here so I don't know if it is because of lack of gravel.....

Don;t go mudflaps..... go 3M if you have to

Got em on you can't even tell there there ,I have to point them out to people that are looking at the car .They are form fitting and are a mat black finnish they blend right in with the tires looking at them from the rear .Plus they use the factory screw holes from the body (2 screws each side ) ,and if you have one of those funny "S" shaped philips screw drivers the job is about 10 min a side ..no removal of the tires this way.
As long as my paint is protected for the long run I am happy :nice:

I don't have a problem with them. Like Craig said, they blend in very good. I have black wheels and black V6 rocker panel mouldings so they will look like they belong on the car.
I'm waiting for mine to come in.

I will definitely be going with the 3M when I get my car. That has always been one of my first mods planned.

How bad did your car get stoned? I remember a while back you mentioned that your car was attacked by 100000000 little stones. Is this why your having it painted. Sorry if you mentioned how you made out before, I have been out of any conversation loop for a while. I just found some small stone chips on the rear side bumper behind the rear passenger tire, also one on the passengers side ground effects rocker. Where can you get Sonic Blue touch up paint?

I say "cool" if only because I installed them on my car. The moulded ones are not very noticable from the rear, and while they are far from invisible, I don't mind the change. My car is white, so the primary colors are white and black, so a little more black isn't very different at all. In fact, at quick glance at the rear, it almost looks like the tires are just wider than usual.

If you do decide you want some, call KC, as he hooked me up. They wer cheap and easy for me to install if you have some way to turn a phillips head screw with about 2 inches of clearance behind it.

Wow, you can't hardly tell they are there.

My car is getting chipped a lot, and I've got a roll of the 3M paint protectant, so putting it on there after the next wash.

Any more pics of the guards on different color cars, and straight from the back?

Normally, I'd say no to mud flaps on Mustang, but if they are molded and unobtrusive, and they save the paint, then I might get some. Had them on all my cars before this one, and helped the paint a LOT!

Mudflaps?!?! Hahaha!!! On a mustang? Maybe we should put on Hi-performance carbon fiber lightweight-less drag 2hp mudflaps....

I'm still not sure if I like them yet, but I only paid $20 and the paint was getting pretty bad back there. Car only has 6700 miles on it.
