Anyone else having problems with their Saleen HID lights?

I've been noticing that the headlights (not the fog lights) have been randomly cutting out. Not flickering, just turning off - BAM! - for no apparent reason. If I turn the car off (i.e. stop at a store or something) and back on again, they come back on again. Last night when it happened, I tried flashing my highbeams, and they worked (ligths came back on again) but as soon as I let go of the switch, they turned dark again. Last night, after about 5 or 6 minutes of being off, they just turned back on again and stayed on until I got home and turned the car off. Weird...

I drive mostly during the day, so I don't notice as much when they shut off...this started happening about a month after installation.

I'm going to go back through and ensure that all the connections are tight, but it's weird that they turn off and on so randomly. Anyone else

From the way you described, my first thought was a loose connection. I'd definitely check that out.

If the ballast overheat they will shut themselves off like you discribed. Doesn't generally happen (especially with a factory-like kit but you do hear it happen with a cheap kit off ebay.) I would call Saleen and let them know what is up. May be defective in some way..

Thanks for the replies guys.

To me, it's behaving like an overheated ballast, but I can't imagine why, because they were installed exactly where they are supposed to be (backside of wheel wells up front). I'll have a look this weekend if I can.

If the problem persists, I will be calling Saleen. It's disconcerting driving around without headlights - thank goodness the fog lights still work else I'd have to pull over and wait.

Cheers,
Kristina

I am not familiar with the setup but is there a separate ballast for each light? If there is, are both lights turning off at the exact same time? If they are and each has its own ballast I wouldn't expect the balast is the issue. What are the chances of both ballasts getting to the exact same temperature, at the same time and shutting both lights off.

Like I said, I have no idea what is involved in the installation.

So far mine have been working fine. Of course the last time I said I wasn't experiencing problems it was about scratching on the window tint. The next day my windows had two scratches in them. Hope my lights work tonight!

I just installed mine today and they are flickering like crazy, they even turned off a few times. It's generally after hitting a bump in one of these fine Va roads. I have a couple of ideas for my issues though;

1. My buddy gave my engine a GOOD SCRUB DOWN, complete with TONs of water. I thinking maybe the water got into a connection some where.

2. I didn't attach the fuses or that large relay, they are pretty much just danlging there.

I will secure them (the fuse and relay) tomorrow and then go off roading to rule out both of my above suspecisons. But someone earlier made a good point about a wiring problem since both lights are acting in concert.

Any update on the issue?

The reason that I am so interested is that I am currently (like right now) in the process of installing mine. I was looking for your installation post and saw this one as well.

What luck...

I used a differant ground and they work perfectly! If you look at the prop rod then move the next bolt to the right; that's the one I used. I also re-traced me steps and found that I placed the ground on top of the bolt vice the underneath side of it like the directions said.

So it was my fault. Hope this helps, the install overall is very easy, it's just a pain to have to take the bumper off. I remember the 99-2004s there was 2 pins that held the headlights in. It literally would take 10 seconds to change lights.

since i posted, mine started having problems lol. turned out the relays for the headlights got a little water in them and kinda rusted. make sure you put some dilectic grease on that double relay block that came with the HIDs. and mount it somehwhere good, i didnt and now i had to order new relays. BTW they are very hard to find, if anyone needs some let me know i finally found where to order them.

Here's the problem I keep having...

Everytime I drop the hood to close it, the aim of the right light gets out of whack! I have to set the hood down gently and press it shut to latch it. It works, but it's going to cause issues if I ever take it into the shop. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it possible the lens is loose?
