I've had it.
My not very local Ford dealer tells me that I can just pop in a v8 front grill in a v6 as he was trying to sell me a mustang. (I know that's not true & kindly listened to a few more mins of his sales pitch then left. I was turned off when he was giving me incorrect info that fortunately thru this board that I knew was wrong.)
My local Ford dealer won't even answer specific email questions about making a purchase with them.
As much as I pull for American car companies & have never owned a non-USA car, I can sure see why the Japanese companies are killing the USA auto manufacturers. I've never seen such unprofessional BS from them when going with my brother to buy cars.
Sad to say, as much as I want a mustang, I'm afraid I'm NOT going to go into a $25K+ relationship with these 2 dealers who are the only ones even close to me. I won't be made to feel like a stinker & an idiot. Treat me with respect or lose my business. You've lost my business.

very few dealers have technical knowledge of the mustang

its not limited to American cars, most salesmen dont know anything about the cars they are selling, that includes the Japanese and European market, I always find myself knowing a hundred times more than the salesmen and catching them in lies even when it comes to a car I really dont know much about, one salesman (at VW dealership) recently didnt even know that a car they make even existed and I was asking about the Golf R32 (was shopping with a friend, not for me), if you want someone that know about their product go to buy an exotic car at a specialty dealer.
Yeah, unfortunately that's life. Salespeople typically do not even know the info that can be found in their very own sales brochures. Every once in a while you find one that really knows their product, but they are few and far between. As for the GT grille, I will be posting a how-to in this thread when my kit arrives:

Ditto. I find myself more knowledgable as well... and it doesn't take any time at all.. makes you wonder...
I went to a local dealership early Jan to ask about the Vert and ordering... KNOWING Job 1 was scheduled for 30 Jan. I took 2 steps out of my car before I got intercepted by a salesman. I asked the question right there, and got the "They havn't given any dates yet"... so I thanked him and left. He didn't even try to get an answer... he thought it was better to lie than to say he didn't know but would find out.

Actually you can put a GT grill on a V6.
Golden Circle in Jackson TN has done it to at least 2 cars that I know of.
I think that they had to modify it slightly but it did fit. I thought the same thing as someone else had posted that you couldn't do that. But this dealership has. If I can find the pix I will post a few.

Most salesman are knowledgeable people, it's the few that just are their to make a buck and could care less that ruin the reputation of the many.
I used to work in retail at the electronics department for a large chain. I was non-commisioned, but I would go home at nights and read stuff on the internet about what I sold so I would be more informed and not look like a total moron when someone would ask me questions. the sad part any more is that it is our job to be the informed consumer before we make big purchases, so I say thank goodness for the internet. I don't think I have ever purchased anything that cost alot of cash w/o first doing research on it.

The second salesperson type is the career person of which there are not too many of us left. I have been at our store for almost 24 years and early on I received some advice to which I still adhere. "Treat EVERY customer the way you want to be treated and everything else will take care of itself". I believed that philosophy and the car business has given my family and I more than I ever could have imagined. Just take care of the customer, period. My son has now followed in my footsteps and has 5 years under his belt and he has adhered to the advice this old warhorse has given him.
If you do not like a salesperson that you are dealing with, there are thousands more out there. Unfortunately the "professionals" are few and far between.
I may get flamed for my insight but I am just calling a spade a spade.

It is sad that a lot of auto salespeople are not product savvy. What I have found in almost 24 years is that there are two basic types of salespersons. The first takes it as a job and does not look at the big picture [e.g. relationship building and future business]. All they care about is making a sale [and usually a used vehicle sale as that is where they make the real $$]. The new vehicle sales process is so cut throat, that a salesperson will literally starve to death selling just new so they concentrate on used.

Ed,
If you & your dealership were in my local area, I would have written you a check for a new mustang this week.
If your user name is where you're at, I can give you a really good dealer. The problem is that they are nowhere near you. They are in the Northwest part of Jersey. Unfortunately the close dealer is usually not the best dealer.
You know if I were going in and asking about a Focus the salesperson could BS me to death. Most consumers today do lots of research especially on big ticket items. If it weren't for the internet we would all be at the mercy of the salesperson. When I ordered my car and starting talking diffderent things that I had learned from this sire the owner of the dealership offered me a job selling cars on the weekend. I know he was kidding but he was impressed with my knowledge of the Mustang.
You got to remember they are salesmen, and that is it. THey are going to just sell the car but in most cases we know more about the car than they do. Heck I told the dealer what I wanted, codes and all before they even had a listing for the mustang.
My opinion is that it's fine if a dealer doesn't know the product, or the answer to your question, they should just say, "I don't know, let me get back to you". Instead some will just lie and try to tell you what they think you want to hear! That pisses me off more than anything.
I have only bought 2 new cars in my life, and I will say that the Acura sales guy knew more abou the product than the Ford salesman. BUt this isn't exactly a scientific poll. I will give my Ford salesman credit, he didn't try to lie and would just admit that I knew more about the Mustang than him.
But for the thread starter, I understand your frustration, and I would feel the same!

Don't confuse auto manufacturers with dealerships. If a company makes a good product, and today most of them do, that's great. Unfortunately to buy that product you've got to put up with a dealership. The good news is that there really are some good ones out there.
Why don't you kust buy one from of the sales reps on this forum and have the car shipped to you?

most car salestypes don't know squat about the product they are selling! That's why I'm buying my GT at xplan pricing- why should I pay a premium to someone who is merely TAKING AN ORDER!! Hence, most car sales people are ORDER TAKERS, NOT SALES PEOPLE!!
I'm extremely disappointed in my hometown dealer back in the U.S. I contacted them several times to let them know I was interested in buying a Mustang from them and never once heard back. Finally, my wife stopped by to speak with them about it, and they said, "Oh yeah, we got his e-mails but didn't know what to do with them." Huh? Let's see, they had an interested buyer and they sold Ford products (including Mustangs)--what's not to understand? The only confusing part might have been the fact that I'm in Iraq, but since when has that stopped a car sale? Long story short, I ended up finding another dealer a couple towns over who bent over backwards to help me and my wife out. I'm actually glad it didn't work out with the first dealer because these guys really won me over with their customer service. Amazing how far a positive, customer-oriented attitude goes.
Here's an idea...TRY ANOTHER DEALER! Not every Ford dealer is reputable. The majority of them by me are jerks, except one.
It's beyond me why any1 would stop considering buying a car from a certain car company cuz of one bad dealer. Do you want the car or are you planning on marrying one of the salesman?
