Thumbs up

He will be painting the stripes this afternoon and he
said it will be ready by tomorrow.

Doesnt it take longer than that for it to dry?

I noticed that his booth had spaec type heaters on the walls...
hhmmmmmmmmm

So his booth really is not an oven? I know the paint is normally still soft for a few weeks. It will chip rather easily.

I paint cars for a living, and with the technology today, your paint will be dry enough. I'd perfer to have it baked though.

I just had mine painted but they had an oven. I emailed the shop and asked them. I will update this post when I get an answer.

Do not wax your car for at least 2 months, and do not go through a car was, not that any mustang owner would.

^^^^ why can't you wax it?

I'd also like to know as i'm having the raised part of my hood blacked out, and my dealer said it would only take 1 day, i was wondering about it too...

You shouldn't wax it because the paint will not cure properly. even though the paint is dry to the touch it is still curing underneath.
I recommend waiting aleast a week before you wash it with soap, (if you need to rinse with plain water and dry with a towel, dont let it water spot) ) and like matt said give it a couple months before waxing it.

Looking at the job they are doing, hopefully you won't have any problems. You should have made them take out the third brake light and rear badge. If after preped for paint there is shiny paint, the paint and clear wont adhere. It is easier to take off them to sand in the brake light pocket and hope they sanded perfectly around the badge. Hope you understand.
A good test is, after you get your car, take a blow gun and blow around it and pray that no clear blows off.

Those heaters probably get it warm, but who knows. When I bake a car, the temp in booth gets to about 180 degrees and a metal temp of 140 degrees for about 25- 30 mins.

I was told by several members that you can not get the rear badge off without damaging it. I didnt want it damaged so I told him to mask it.
I didnt mention the 3rd brake light. I will when I go look at it on Tuesday. I'm more worried about the spoiler. He said there was 2 sided tape under it so he couldnt get it off. He said he didnt want to take a putty knife to it. Wouldnt a blow drier get that off?

I could understand why he would be worried about scratching it, but thats where taking your time and patience give you a quality job. Also, I dont know how he will totally get the bottom side of the spoiler painted, with it being on the car, cause the spoiler has deep grooves in it.

He masked the underside of the spoiler. He said he couldnt do it with it on the car and he was scared to damage it with the tape on it.

I dont know how he can do a quality job on the top of the deck lid under the spoiler with it on. He said that was no problem.

He also said he will try and get it off and paint it if I didnt like it.

I cant see signing off on a 3/4 paint job on the spoiler so it will most probably hae to come off.

Ill see it on Tuesday and decide.

I'm in no hurry. This is a birthday present for my wife that I ordered last November. Her birthday was late Feb and the car didnt get here till St Patricks day. Sooo it is late and she doesnt even know about it.
So whats the hurry?

The 7 miles I drove it from the dealership to the painter sure was fun though.

When you get it home, make sure that cats don't have access to where you're keeping it. I had a beautiful paint job on a '68 Ranger and had stored it in a garage til the paint was good to go and some cats ruined it the first night. Had to have the upper front end re-prepped and repainted.

Funny you should mention cats. I caught one in a trap last night.
I have about 3 out here that arnt mine. Strays that come around and tear stuff up. I was glad I caught one of them and not a skunk or possom. Those two would be tough to get out of the cage! hahaa

Im off to the Humane Society with him. He's a mean one. Hissin and spitting at me. He'd fit in great on these boards!!
