CDC just sent me this pic. I didn't see it posted anywhere yet.
For me it just makes the decision to buy the Street Scene ducktail spoiler even easier. It looks OK, buit it doesn't fit the retro style of the 05. It would look fine on a pimped out show car w/ 22's though... IMO

Fireseid 3/15/05 02:19 PM

I believe it has been mentioned that that is actually the brake light inclusive of the glassback, and not available on its own.

StangNut 3/15/05 02:35 PM

According to CDC that is the seperate brake light that goes with the DT spoiler. They are still waiting on pricing.

Well, this pic is actually being positioned as the ducktail and the optional high-center brakelight. The glassback integrated brakelight goes all the way across from pillar to pillar, I beleive.

Hmm... wish I could see the Street Scenes one at night like that as well. I'm not liking the CDC one from that picture so far. :dunno:

acadian 3/15/05 03:34 PM

I can confirm that the brake light will be a seperate thing, because I received the same info from CDC. I aldo don't like it. Maybe if it was a lot smaller, like just 5 or 6 inches like a normal third brake light. Maybe this has been discussed, but do you absolutely need a third break light? Is this a law, and if so is it a local or a national thing?

05GT-O.C.D. 3/15/05 04:24 PM

I LOVE IT!!! That's exactly what I was hoping for, I have to say, :nice: :nice: CDC! I noticed they converted the inside taillamps to brake lamps too, very nice. I'm all for the retro thing too, that's actually one of the reasons I DO NOT want the cutout in the ducktail for the lamp. Good job CDC, I'm placing my order now.

Actually doesn't look bad...with the brake light mounted high it's more functional than the stock one. You may be able to disable or black-out some of the lights so you don't have that real long strip of lights.

Thanks for the correction...
I personally don't see why they just don mold in a clear piece of acrylic or something to allow the stock 3rd brake light shine through.

Some asked about legality. In some states the 3rd brake light is required after a certain year on production model vehicles.
I believe this is the case here in New Jersey.

Second, it does help to inform would-be tailgaters of your intentions to slow down or stop.
The third brake light can probably be credited with prevent many a rear-endings.

Zc527 3/15/05 05:32 PM

oooooo I love it! it reminds me of a cadillac

moze 3/15/05 05:44 PM

First: to answer the question above - yes, you are required by law to have a high-center brake light.

Second: regardless of whether you think it looks good or not, this won't work for a 'vert. I told CDC that I had a 'vert and they said they had a solution. This isn't it.

Street Scene, here I come.

05GT-O.C.D. 3/15/05 06:29 PM

CDC has a solution for the vert, the light bar! Sure, you'll have to 'pony up' (sorry for the pun :shame:), but it'll look cool!

GRAYPNY 3/15/05 06:34 PM

In California if the car came with a 3rd light then it is illegal not to have one. The light strip is 18 inches long and personally I like it more than a cutout in the spoiler. I would say that when you don't have your foot on the brake it looks much better than an exposed 3rd light.

I'm starting to like these spoilers less and less because I have yet to see one other than the molded $$$ spoiler car that doesn't look like it was just "stuck on"! JMO~

acadian 3/15/05 06:48 PM

No matter where you put the third brake light, it's not going to look "retro". But, IMO this lightbar is better than a cutout in the spoiler. Because you won't see it all the time... only when you are braking. When you are parked or driving around, it will be invisible. I like the idea of possibly blacking out some of the light bar to make it smaller. Someone said somthing about it looking like a Cadillac. I personally don't want my Mustang to look like a Cadillac.

Umm... since the "high-center" has to be visible all the time, how is the light bar a solution? I intend to have my top down 300 days out of the year. :dunno:

Fireseid 3/15/05 10:47 PM

Serves as a dome light while braking.. lol.

markski74 3/16/05 10:57 AM

CDC just sent me the pic that you see in the initial post plus the following info:

"Mark,

Attached is an image of a version of the third brake light the one we are offering is 18” long versus the length that is pictured, but will mount the same. As soon as the new images are available we will post them on the site."

The one pictured is apparently not the length of the one that will be sold.

The requirement for 3rd brake light varies from state to state. Only two brake lights need be visable from the rear in Illinois, I can't speak for other states though.

Adam 3/16/05 12:17 PM

I like the idea, but I think it's way too wide. Looks like escalade width, but in my opinion it shoud only be about 50% as wide.

moze 3/16/05 01:13 PM

So, 05GT-O.C.D. was exactly right. Kim at CDC sent me an email stating that the Light Bar was their solution for convertibles.

http://www.classicdesignconcepts.com/catal...isplay/649.html

So, I install a light bar for when the top is down and a LED in the rear window as well for when the top is up? Or I go with the Street Scene option. Too bad. I think I prefer the CDC stuff, but that is just too much work for a ducktail.
