Antenna Options?

I cut my antenna myself to 18"... right even with the roof of the car. Here is the only pic of I have... hard to see it, but you can make out the ball at the roofline. Took 10 minutes and costed not a penny.

Thanks, Janet. I thought I was the only one that it had that affect on. ![Drool](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/drool.gif)
Ok, well first take the antenna off the car and knock the ball off. I used a cresent wrench and tightened it onto the end of the antena, right under the ball. Then, just use a hammer and hit the wrench a couple good times towards the ball until the ball pops off. Make sure that you know where it's going to go though so you don't lose it. After you cut the antenna to the length you want it, just use a file and file the tip of antenna to chamfer the edges. Then, you just put the ball right back on the antenna and hammer it down. It should just take another couple good hits with the hammer. You don't need to use any adhesive... it's held on by pressure. I cut mine probably 5 months ago and have even been over a hundred a few times... and the ball is still there. After you are all done, just use some black touch-up paint to touch up any scratches or scuffs on the ball or antenna and put it back on the car.

Allen, thanks for the compliments. It's Mineral Grey with black 10" stripes. I did the hood pins myself, as well as everything else on the car, other than the tint of course.
And 8" is way too short. I say 18" or 0". Either take it off (which will basically give you the same reception as having it 8"), or maybe wait and get an automatic retracting one. The 8" one just looks very odd to me.

Yes, I want a longer one than that 8 inch one. Seriously. Don't anyone lock this thread because I am being totally serious. I think the height on acadians is just right, blends in with the roof line. If I'm feeling brave I may try the "do it yourself" shortening idea. Besides, if it doesn't work I was planning to get a new one anyway right?

I've always wondered what the point of that curly part was? To discourage small bugs from climbing up your antenna, maybe?
That's the perfect height though, but I don't think I like the curls.

I had one on my '66 that had a spring at the base of the antenna. That way you could bend it back and put a car cover on without taking off the antenna. I'm looking for one of those for my new ride.
acadian......re; your stripes. 1st....the black on the mineral is totally rich. Great choice going for the subtleness. Are they painted?

Allen, they aren't painted... yet. They are just vinyl but I am in the process of saving up to get a '65/'66 Shelby hood scoop molded onto my hood and then having the hood repained and getting black Shelby stripes painted on the car. Then, all the pieces will be cleared and it will be even more subtle. I am estimating the end of August.

To put it simply, the curls make the antenna longer, while keeping it short in height.

I like medium curls, because I hate by straight hair.
