Unhappy

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bother you with this topic that might have allready been disscused, but I feel I need your advise. I found, on tire rack, a wheel and tire combo I would like to order (see below for details). Now, for same price, I am giving the option to choose between 18x8 or 18x9 rims but I dont know which one I should go with. What would you guys do and why ?

Tires : BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 - 255/45 (recommended by Tire Rack)
Rims : Mille Miglia EV-R (available on 18x8 & 18x9) - Price: $199.00 (each)

Thanks for your help

I have the same tires mounted to my 18x8. You do not need 18x9's for these tires.

Edit: Specs state that the 255/45R18 fits rim width of 8-9.5 so get whatever you want but they look great on my 18x8 rims

Adrenalin,

Thanks for the advise. What is it going to bring to the car if I choose to go with 18x9 ? better handling or just better looking ?

I don't think you will even notice a difference. If I calculated it out properly it will look like the tire is a little less than a 1/4" wider than if it were placed on the 18x8. The only real benefit I see to going with the 18x9 is if you wanted to go with a wider tire such as a 275 later on down the road.

For me, I like the 18x9's. But that's only because I think the 255's on the 8" wheels have a little too much of a bulge in the sidewall. The amount of bulge and whether or not you think you might go with a wider tire down the road are the only two things that make a difference if your choice.

Thanks for your replies I'll go with the 18x9 then... at least I'll have the flexibility of going with bigger tires....

I personally say get the 18x9's... if you are going to get aftermarket wheels, get wider ones. Why wouldn't you. Either 18x8's in the front and 18x9's in the back (if you can afford to not have to rotate your rubber) or 18x9's all around. But, I'd also get some 275 wide tires on the 18x9's. More rubber on the road.

Personally there is no bulge from the BFG 255's on my 18x8's. Guess it also depends on how good of a tire you go with.

Maybe not how good the tire is, but the brand. Just like two different brands of shoes that say they're the same size, not all tires of the same size are exactly the same between brands. On my old 96GT, I had 10.5" wheels out back. The first set of 315's I put on it were Sumitomo HTZ's and you could fit your thumb between the tire and exhaust and have about 1/8" to spare. Then I put on a set of Pirelli P7000's back there and you could barely fit your pinky between the tire and exhaust - and they were visibly wider

BFG uses stiff, almost straight sidewalls. So there should be less bulge, better handling, and stiffer ride.
