I'd like to see a GT-R offered for the weekend racer but I still think the Boss should be the next SE model offered. Make mine Grabber Blue please....

how about a lightweight street version of the fr500c? if ford can't use the boss name, then i think this would do just as well. it also doesn't hurt that the fr500c's are doing well in grand am. it can look like a boss or shelby gt350 (i like 'em both). just keep the good stuff - suspension (fat chance for irs), brakes, wheels, and transmission. get rid of the bad stuff - weight.

Mach 1 with an all aluminum 5.4 3v engine pumping out 375 to 400 hp
However a 4v 5.8 V10 would be worthy of the Boss name, anybody remember that silver 4v V10 Boss 351 play toy Ford should have produced a few years ago....bad ****....

5.0 article with H.T.T. Has H.T.T. telling of a " We're hoping for a Boss 302 and a 5.0 LX. I believe that there is room between a Mustang GT and a Shelby Cobra GT 500 in terms of product positioning and market positioning. We will take your input under advisement."

Boss or GT350 -- evenly split -- but basically a taughter, leaner, high winding handler of a Stang. Perhaps Ford would even see fit to ditch the 19th century ox-cart axle for a contempory IRS. Slap in some big Brembos, a tight 6 speed, and perhaps a 350+ 4V screamer variant of the 4.6 (no need to go bigger, save that for the drag-racer Mach I). I might even have them try to trim some of the fat with perhaps wider use of aluminum and whatnot. Some nice Recaros/Sparcos in the cabin, HIDs to light up the night and some refined styling touches (GT500 bits sans goofy, adolescent graphics) and voila, the thinking man's road racer/grand touring Mustang.

So as where the GT500 is primarily a pumped up, big motored GT with the emphasis on smooth road, straight line performance, in spite of rather modest suspension tweaks, I would like to see a Mustang focused much more on overall balance and breadth of performance capability rather than yet another brutish straighliner which we already have. Ford has offered both IRS and Recaros in the past, if not on the same model, so it's not like that can't -- or couldn't -- do it.
Maybe if we got Colletti back in charge as he didn't seem to have much problem figuring out how to offer that stuff for $5-10K less than Ford's likely to ask for the powerful but decontented GT500.

Well, the question was what next SE we would want, not necessarily what Ford might feel to grace us with. But I don't necessarily want a car that is "better" than the GT500, whatever that might mean, but one that is different.

When considering the next SE model, the emphasis should be on providing something different, not simply a lesser version of the current offering. A Boss or GT350 would be the best choice and should focus on balanced handling, stellar braking and high RPM N/A horsepower. Including such features as an IRS, lighter weight, a N/A 4.6L with 350 hp +, Recaros and other options would be so appealing.
If Ford were to listen to Rhumb, myself and others and offer an SE with those options, there would be plenty of demand for both a GT500 and Boss (or GT350). Offering such a model would not detract from either model and would broaden the Mustang's appeal as well as addressing a notable gap in the model line-up.
