Hi everyone, I introduced myself in the Intro and Photos forum but for those of you who don't read those treads, I'm a former lurker that finally decided to sign up and jump in on the conversations. I also post on many other forums to see what's being said about the GT500 or if there are any new pics floating around. Honestly, I really look forward to discussing the GT500 with everyone here.

So here are a few quotes from another forum concerning a possible V10 for the GT500:

"JUST FYI: The head SVT guy at this dealership, said they had just gotten
out of a meeting and SVT and Ford is considering a different Engine for the
Shelby GT500 and are will be running some tests to see if a change is in order.
Apparently they are considering some sort of V-10 Engine. Anyone else hear this speculation???"

"That is what he said... they are testing a V-10 to use instead of the 5.4 liter Supercharged V8. They are wanting to get a full 500hp + out of the engine and can't get there with the 5.4 liter V8, without stressing the engine too much. So they are running tests and are considering a change, depending on the results."

Now I know this is still rumor but could it be true?

No I highly doubt the GT500 will be using a V10. Especially this far into testing.

The 5.4 V8 is very capable of making 500+ hp with just a bit of tweaking. Its very closely related to the Ford GT's engine. Two of the main differences is that the GT500 has a forged cast-iron block opposed to the aluminum block in the GT. Another is that the GT is being force fed by a Lysholm S/C at 12 psi while the GT500 has an Eaton-Lysholm blower putting out 8.5 psi. Like with the past 03-04 Cobras a simple swap of the blower pully to produce a bit more psi will yield close to the 500 mark.

Last I heard is that the GT500 was putting out 465 hp as of the latest testing. :nice:

A V10 was already been tested a year ago and the 5.4 is being taken to the max at the present application. IMO, I see it as a strong possibility combined with IRS for a version similar to the Super Stallion prototype of a few years back, to be introduced as competition to the Viper and Z06. If it were to happen it would likely be big bucks.

I agree that it's too late in the game to make any changes to the GT-500. The 5.4L Ford GT engine puts out in excess of 550 HP so that shouldn't be a problem, although one of the limiting factors in the mod motor is its very narrow main bearings.

I've heard several rumors that the V10 is once again being considered for various future Ford products (since the Hurricane was cancilled) One of those models under consideration is a Mustang SE, but it would be a different Mustang SE than the GT-500 and would come out several years after the GT-500.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for any V-10 hi-po Fords anytime soon. This rumour keeps resurfacing and it gets shot down every time. Not to mention V-10 in the GT500 would absolutely make for a slower car, no doubt about it. Ford would have to put waaaay more money into the development of the V-10 (assuming it would be n/a) than they have in the blown 5.4L just to get equal peformance numbers.

The GT500 is going to be a blown V-8 pure and simple, anything else is more than likely just the wishful thinking of somebody fascinated with more cylinders for the sake of more cylinders.

5.4 can't handle it????? What engine is in the Ford GT??? Exactly.........more than capable....

Yeah, on the dyno the GT spits out over 600hp at the crank with an aluminum block. This is all bogus rumour, the blown 5.4L could churn out far more hp than that with little problem if Ford wanted to do it.

Ford has a 6.8L V10 that could be modified to work in a mustang.

6.8L V10
Horsepower: 362 @ 4750 rpm
Torque: 457 @ 3250 rpm

now slap a blower on that thing and you would have one heck of a mustang. :-D

DrunkenDragon713 7/5/05 08:28 AM

Also a Mustang that would vary in the 60 - 75k range...

And have a 70/30 weight distribution...

The 6.8L V10 is the 5.4L V8 with two extra cylinders. The thing is freaking' HUGE. I highly doubt it will fit under the Mustang's hood.

Now, the short-deck 5.8L V10 is definitely possible...

AFBLUE 7/7/05 03:47 AM

Here is a link to the V-10 Ford tested in a mustang back in 2003. http://www.stangbangers.com/Boss351V-10Exp...tal_Article.htm

It was a 4.6 DOHC with 2 more cylinders welded on, coming out to 351 cubic inches. Made 430hp and 405lbs of tq

MustangFanatic 7/7/05 06:38 AM

While we MIGHT see a V10 (and I emphasize MIGHT) at some point in the Mustang, it won't be in the GT500. The 5.4L SC is a known commodity and Ford wouldn't risk screwing up the best car in their line-up by introducing a brand new unproven engine in their flagship model. Feel free to disagree, but I don't see a V10 in the immediate future and certainly not in the GT500.

I bet the V10 is within spitting distance of the S/C'd 5.4 V8's weight ( and I 'd go on a limb and say the V10 is probably lighter)

A 5.8L - V10 with aluminum block and 3V heads would weigh less than the GT-500 iron block, 4V, SC V8.

conv_stang 7/9/05 02:10 PM

i could see them bringing the V10 and IRS for a GT500R or the next cobra R. but i would doubt it for the 07 GT500 and the 5.4 S/C is plenty capable of well in excess of 500HP. just look at the 03/04 cobra easily modified to 500+ and with 281 cubic inches. now add 49 more cubic inches to get to 330 and look out!

Fordracing200 7/9/05 09:04 PM

ford would not use V-10 because emissons standards limit them to so many cubic inchs per year so they wouldnt be able to produce as many mustangs if they do that

Blown CS 10/28/15 08:57 PM

I know another rumor was a twin turbo 5.0l and some pics are floating around on the net of it.
