high light:
The GT500 will feature upgraded suspension, brakes and interior. However, it is the car's heart that makes it truly special. The Shelby's supercharged 5.4-liter, 32-valve V8 is based on the engine in the Ford GT, making it the most powerful factory-built Mustang in history. Projected to churn out over 475 HP with 475 ft. lbs of torque, the car will have a higher factory rating than the 1969 Mach 1 428 Super Cobra Jet or legendary 1969 Boss 429. The first GT500 is expected to be available in June 2006.

I've been thinking (that could be a problem ). We've been going about this whole price and AMV deal the wrong way. Rather than discourage the dealers and get into exchanges with them we should encourage them to mark up the GT500s as much as possible and let the dealers' inventories build up.
Ford of Coral Gables in South Florida had a 2K Cobra R which had a $15K AMV. A friend of mine and I stopped by to see it (no test drive) and my friend told the sales manager that other dealers were charging $25K rather than the $15K. Two weeks later I stopped by again. Sure enough, the AMV was now $25K.
That Cobra R sat in the showroom for almost two years.

Not a bad idea, find the GT500 you want and encourage the dealer to mark it up to a ridiculous level so no one else will buy it
Question is, what did the Cobra R finally sell for?

Steve: I don't know how much it sold for. All I know is I kept dreaming of having it in my driveway.
I had a better chance at getting divorced and keeping my underwears than getting that Cobra R.

Forget suggesting an AMV to the dealer, next time tell the dealer to put a "SOLD" sign on the vehicle to guarantee it will sit on the lot without the "danger" of it being actually sold to a fool willing to pay for it. Then "rescue" the car from the dealer's lot with an "offer they can't refuse." Tip: mumble that last part to be more convincing.

So, when is Jay Leno going to take delivery of the first GT500?

I wouldn't be dancing for that. One will be available in June 2006 for 15K+ over MSRP :P

I think that's great, and a smooth promotional tool, too. You know what would have been REALLY COOL???
If Ford decided to raffle it off for charity, and letting a regular guy have a chance of winning it. Think.....an "everyman" winning an "everyman's sports car". That would probably be just as good, P.R. wise, and could potentially net alot more $$$ for Shelby's charity!
They decided to go with the big publicity route (can't blame 'em) with Barrett-Jackson. I'm sure guys like Jay Leno will bid it up to several hundred $K, and use it as a charitible tax deduction.
I can see it now.....auction would have to be postponed for a "clean-up in aisle 5" for all of the dealer drool.
If it sells for over $100k, every dealer on the planet will mark up theirs at least $20-$25k.
