I was working on a new rear for the centerfire and was using the shelby pic as a base so i decided to strip off the centerfire stuff and post the Shelby version.

enjoy

Doug my man... that is AMAZING!!! Ford needs to take a page out of your book because that is some beautiful stuff.

1 COBRA 3/27/05 08:29 PM

WOHHHHHH! :nice:

You should send this version to SVT, and pronto. I can imagine good old Steve might commit larceny one more time... and get away with it.

:rofl2:

mr-mstng 3/27/05 08:30 PM

Jeez Doug, you always out-do yourself. The Shelby emblem is perfect, and not gaudy. I think it fits much more than the lettering. The talights are different enough to distinguish them from a standard car. :nice:

I still have a soft spot for those concept lights though too.

MilStang 3/27/05 08:36 PM

:worship: :worship:

As always Doug, I am speachless!!

Evil_Capri 3/27/05 08:36 PM

NICE!!

Lalo 3/27/05 08:39 PM

Sorry for posting again, but i cant stop looking at it!

1 COBRA 3/27/05 08:48 PM

But don't you DARE touch the front...
If you do, you are Doug meat.

burningman 3/27/05 08:51 PM

HAHAHAHHA ok george no worries.....oh BTW i took the eye sore off the front of my car today ;)

Lalo 3/27/05 08:57 PM

hey, i havent seen a pic of your car Doug. i wonder how a black on black spring ed. looks like

KR3259 3/27/05 09:00 PM

where in the world did those tailites come from!?
that is as close to perfect for the backside of this car as you can get...nice job!

IT'S ABOUT TIME!
Lucky for you, I was about to come out of retirement.

burningman 3/27/05 09:06 PM

Lalo..the spring edition stripes are gone now :( I'm an idiot don't ask

Mike I created them from the stock tail lights with a bit of photoshop magic.

George...HAHHAHA you were right it looks better by far but there is some wear marks but they aren't to bad. I plugged the holes with some special putty i found so the only marks are just the diameter of the holes.

Lalo 3/27/05 09:56 PM

that's not photoshop magic, thats some Doug magic right there

Psycho911 3/27/05 11:10 PM

just those tailights would be sweet, the way they are curved/bent would make the rear look so much better

Maverick128 3/27/05 11:23 PM

Eh. I like it better the way it is right now. I wouldn't change anything.

Robert 3/28/05 03:04 AM

That ain't half bad, dude! You're right though, that back end needs something done to distinguish itself more from the GT - especially considering they did nothing to the sides.

That said, my guess is that retooling the rear end is an expensive proposition - mostly cause they'd have the trunk decklid opening to re-engineer - and so we will not see any fiddling with the back. This issue is also why they didn't do the straight across lights either, IMHO. Without significant redesign, those light bars would interfere with trunk access.

Which is to the car's detriment, because in its present form the rear end ain't different enough from a stock GT. :bang:

Wolf 3/28/05 04:50 AM

I have no problem with the current back end. :-D

crispy23c 3/28/05 11:04 AM

Nice work, Doug!
Actually, they could slap the honeycomb on the back (pretty cheap) to match the front & differentiate the rear from a regular Mustang. Wouldn't cost that much.

Hey, Doug, have you done a GT500 'vert yet? Just askin, not insisting (well....maybe not insisting.... :-D )

burningman 3/28/05 12:07 PM

nah haven't touched a vert yet but maybe I'll give it a shot

please do. Maybe do one without and one with one of those bars like the old shelbys had.

Nice work Topnotch :nice:

Too bad Ford didn't use those :(

Lalo 3/28/05 03:26 PM

good work Sean. they dont look as bad on there as i thought.

but those centerfire lights,

ZwerRacing 3/28/05 04:09 PM

Doug as always great work. You are the man, but this one is just not my taste. I think the part that bothers me is how black area around the lights is bigger then the center portion hight wise.

burningman 3/28/05 05:08 PM

Thanx guys..just keep in mind this wasn't originally a shebly idea..it was for the centerfire..

I got the idea from this car

They are very close to what 67 and 68 rears looked like.

P.S. thats a great looking rear for the Shelby, and I always have like those particular Shelby emblems.

Robert 3/28/05 06:46 PM

Wouldn't it be great to get something like this. I think the problem is that Ford doesn't want to spend the time or money redesigning the rear taillight treatment for a relatively low production volume. I suspect that the 10% of the Shelby that DOES get changed won't be the rear lights, but more likely fatter rubber, different mirrors...stuff like that.

1967eleanor 3/29/05 06:15 PM

here my take w/ 67 shelby lights n a new duck tale

bullittman68 3/29/05 06:24 PM

i see where you got those taillights from that 67 vert, burningman, but the fastbacks were actually straight acrossPicture, and the middle went up:

Blip 3/29/05 06:41 PM

Great work Doug!
Hope you do create a Shelby Vert.

MustangFanatic 3/30/05 07:31 AM

Great work as usual Doug!!!

Z.A.P. 3/30/05 08:20 AM

Sorry but that looks ugly. the current version looks great.

matic 3/30/05 05:01 PM

I like it ... but I don't mind the Shelby lettering the way it is. Wonder what the gold letters would look like sunk down into the bottom half of your black inverted insert there.

Zc527 3/30/05 05:30 PM

i like it alot doug!

Yeah i know and I tried that look but ditched it..i think sisnce the new stangs aren't fatbacks and are technically notches it's appropriate ;)

one2gamble--very nice mod to the front.

Maverick128 3/31/05 11:02 AM

With the smaller opening for the headlights it almost looks like an old man squinting. Sorry but I think Ford got this one perfect. I can't think of a better way of doing this car.
