Motor Trend catches Saleen cheating on their test

They noticed the car's exhaust was smelling rich on the S281 they were testing. They ran a California emissions on it and it failed. Looks like Saleen tried pulling a fast one on Motor Trend.

That's sad; MT reported 0-60 times of only 0.1 second quicker and a quarter-mile time identical to that of a stock GT.

They even invited Saleen to give them a normal car for retesting. Guaranteed nothing comes of that.

well the saleen only has 25 more hp and wieghts a lot more i would imagine due to the big wheels and added weight of the body kit and other misc. parts that they add...if you wanna see performance, check out the sc and extremem models!

I wouldn't buy a regular '05 S281 anyway, $38k for them...i'd rather take that $8-10k and do something useful to the Stang GT. I bet those 20's don't help matters either.

That is one shameful showing... just .1 better on the 60, and nothing on the 1/4th. Pathetic

Well, I for one am shocked!
This is going to deal a body-blow to the auto industry and it's squeaky clean, "customer-first, profits-second" image, and no mistake! This is surely a simple mistake and will be cleared up in no time?
Whatever's next? Those blighters at MT will be telling me my racing stripes AREN'T good for 20RWHP, as advertised at www.emptyyourwalletsukka.com????

When i read that story the impression i got was that Saleen effed up when they reprogrammed the comp. IMO Saleen will give it another try with a properly tuned 'stang and we will actually see some performance improvements despite those hideous/huge wheels.
