Ok from what a magazine said the concept is doing 12.5 in the quarter mile and 4 seconds flat 0-60 so that means the production should do less or about the same. But we all know once MM&FF gets ahold of the production car they might be able to get the car in the 11s in stock form. What does everyone else think?

Ok people the magazine that said they test drove the shelby is not the production car it is only a concept. SO why do we need the quarter mile time and 0-60 time for the concept when nobody in here is getting the concept car? Also alot could change on the production car like wieght and hp and that could mean a big difference in the quarter and 0-60 times so that information they gave in the magazine is useless anyone else agree?

The new z06 is going to be an incredible car. The shelby may be able to keep up with it in a straight line, but im sure the z06 will outhandle it anyday. the z06 is going to be a 500hp car that weighs about 600 lbs less than the shelby.

Unfortunately for vette owners, it will most likely be priced in the 75k range which is 30k+ more than the shelby.

I dont understand how you think a car with 50 more hp and is 500 lbs. lighter will be the same speed as the shelby!

Sure there are better drivers out there that can drive a shelby with a better 1/4 m time...

But there's better drivers for the Z06 too!

The shelby is not competition for the Z06.

What I am trying to figure out is how in one thread you start you say that C&D used the concept for their tests and the data is useless since the production version could be different. Then you use that data for your argument in this thread, so is the data useless or not?

Iceman, kind of curious how you're drawing the line from C&D's reported 12.5 to some fantasy 11.5? C&D may not acheive the best times but they're certainly not going to be 1 full second off.

I like mustangs as much as the next guy, but I agree with the prior poster. How do you think a car with much less weight, and more horsepower and torque, is going to lose to a a heavier car with less of both. It physically doesn't make sense. Of course, as has been pointed out, the Z06 will be much more expensive, however that is unimportant in the discussion of which one will purely be faster.

Ok the only difference between the z06 will be the wieght diference here is how i figure it will do 11s ok it will wiegh about 3,850lbs and do 116mph in the 1/4mile assuming a 170lb driver your looking at a race wieght of 4,020lbs! ET/mph caculator indicates this bad boy is putting out closer to 500hp at the rear wheels and should run about a 11.70s or 11.5 if it can get enough traction. And that right there tells me it will not get beat by the z06 by much.

plus it is promised by the man who built the GT500 that it will out perform the 03-04 cobra and there get low 12s so i am 100% sure the GT500 will get in the 11s when it comes out.

Plus C&D drove the concept not the real shelby that will be out but from what they said about the concept it can get 11s if MM&FF would have test drove it cause i have seen other magazines test drive a 150,000 FordGT and they only got 11.6 in the quarter and when MM&FF got ahold of one they got 10.9 stock see it all depends who is driving it. I can promise you MM&FF will for sure get 11s when they get ahold of one.

I have always said the Z06 will be faster but not by much.

In order for the GT500 to "keep up" with the Z06, it has to be going the same speed, otherwise it is falling behind. The farther the two cars go, the farther and farther it will fall behind.

I think the best time they will get with the new Z06 will be about the same as the FordGT and that will be about i figure about low 11s and the GT500 high 11s. Once they come out and MM&FF test drive both of them we will see who is right i promise you my accusations are close.

And i am not sure about the speed in the quarter mile it could be faster but mark my words it will do 11s in the quarter when it comes out maybe not by you are me but when MM&FF drive it trust me they will get it in the 11s.

Because Car and Driver has tested a Z06. Did I say you said that the GT500 will beat the Z06, I don't think I ever did. If I did, then I mistyped.

Qtr Mile - 12.5 s @ 116 mph

Z06
0-60 - 3.8 s
Qtr Mile - 11.7 s @ 127 mph

That's not really that close, the Z06 almost has a full second on it.
