A Special V6 marketed as a Canadian special would rock. Add all sorts of winter options, performance/handling upgrades, and luxurious materials and I'd buy one no questions asked.

We already get traction control and ABS standard on the GT's.
We also had Mustang cobras all through the 80's that the americans did not have

Yeah, Sorry. The Base GT is 24300 USD according to Fords website and the base V6 is 18775. A difference of only 5525 USD. As far as I know they have not announced the pricing of the new stang yet but I imagine the ratio will still be similar. I dont know exchange rates, but 4-5000 USD would all but buy the V8. That sucks that the GT is so much more expensive then the V6 for you guys. Can you not skip over the border and buy a US spec GT? But you are metric arent you. Dashes and everything are different right. A well modded V6 may not be a bad Idea.

But, as my buddy who moved to the States says, it doesn't matter what your currency exchange is if you are getting paid and spending in the same dollars. So, for me it's still a substantial difference!
And, because it is a little more, there is more pricing room to fit a V6 Sport option in without necessarily cannibalizing GT sales. Unfortunately, our relatively small market means that it is very unlikely that it is worth marketing such a car just to pick up a few sales in Canada. Much easier to just slap ponies all over a V6, load it up with options and sell that. And I have no interest in that!
Oh well, maybe the ride and handling of the "normal" V6 will be a pleasant surprise.

If I understand right the Cobra has an iron block, but the gt still has aluminum. Right?

I'm not sure how accurate these are, but here is what I was able to find on engine weights:
3.8L V6- pushrod iron block: 351 lb
4.0L V6- SOHC iron block: 365 lb
3.0L V6 - Duratec DOHC aluminum block: 360 lb
4.6L V8 SOHC 2 valve iron block: 530 lb
4.6L V8 DOHC 4 valve, aluminum block: 521 lb
4.6L V8 SOHC 3 valve, aluminum block: 460 lb **
** Estimated. In one of the car rags it said that the engine was 70 lb
lighter than the 04 iron block 4.6 SOHC.
You can also see how much lighter ( 61 lb ) the 05 SOHC engine is than the DOHC. Those DOHC heads must be really heavy!

Interesting - that means that even with its iron block, the V6 is 95 lbs lighter than its V8 counterpart. That may not sound like a lot of weight overall, but getting that weight off the front tires could provide some advantages in overall handling balance and turn-in response.
Given the overall better weight distribution with the '05s, this might mean the V6 has some decent potential for cheap, balanced performance -- even if it means some tweaks by the owner.
