I got my 05 V6 a little over a month ago, and I have been checking in on the gas milage for a while now. I currently have 500 miles on my car, and it has been reading anywhere from 11-14 mpg since I got it. I reset the timer and drove on the freeway and got 14. Then reset it again and got around 11 in the city. I do tend to push it every once in a while, but I am by no means a crazy driver, and I do not floor it at every stop light.
I even have been letting up on the gas more and just coasting as much as possible to see if that will help.
:dunno: Do you think something is wrong with my car? Should I have it looked at? Do you reccomend I wait a little while to see if it gets better as I break the car in?

Sounds low. If I reset and jump on the highway, it shows 25-27 mpg. I do a mix of highway and city driving, so far the worst I have gotten is 23 and the best was 25. I checked the computer readout against my expense spreadsheet and the mileage it's reporting is accurate. Are you resetting the MPG gauge AND the gallons used gauge? You have to reset both for it to read properly I think.

I've never had worse than 21.5mpg to the tank, and that was on my very first tank, which included a trip to the local dragstrip.

My best is 29mpg to the tank, and that was on a road trip where my worste tank was 27.

Are you driving an automatic? Whats the air temp like there? Are you running the a/c a lot?

Yeah its an auto, but I rarly use the a/c at all. I am not sure if I have been reseting both the mpg and gallons used gauge at the same time, I will try reseting them both at the same time and seeing if that has any affect.
I havn't manualy calculated the mpg myself yet, so I will do that so I can make sure that the message center isn't just messed up.

I've been driving almost exclusively on the freeway (my daily commute is a pain) and I've been getting as much as 390 miles to the tank (with a little left over). Averages out to about 25-27 MPG.

Ya i went something like 424 miles to the tank on my road trip, with 1.5 gallons left.

Mileage should improve as you drive it. When I first got the car it registered 17 mpg today it read 22mpg. The car currently has about 1800 miles on it.

I guess I will wait a little while longer, at least until I hit 1000 miles.

I dont have the mileage data, but I just made a road trip from Rome, GA to Panama City Beach, Florida. Its roughly 370 miles from city to city by the route I took. I filled up on 93 octane when I left, and had a quarter of a tank left when I got there. Thats roughly 30 mpg. 7K miles on the car.

Use should try using 87 octane. Thats what the mustang is made for.

The gas mileage with the Ford 4.0 L is as legendary
as the Mustang.
It has never compared to similar motors such as the GM
4.3 L.
It has improved over the last couple of years, but is still a gas pig.

I dont know about "made for" but Im in a position right now where I can afford the 20 cents extra for 93 over 87. 50 years down the line if it makes a difference, better for me. If not, nothing lost but a few more bucks for better piece of mind :)

Unless you are going to be running a more advanced timing, they have shown that higher octane gas will add at most like 3hp on a gt, which is maybe 1-2 on a v6. As far as efficiency goes? maybe it will get better mileage, but i doubt it.

i get 7mpg better with my 05GT than my 02 v6 convertible

Brian, I would wait until you hit 1000 and see how it goes by then. It's a good idea to manually check it yourself. Post when you get your findings

i have 3500 miles and only get between 280-310 miles per tank, which equals around 20-22mpg. I dont know how yall are getting 27. I also have to manually calculate mine since I dont have the computer message center.

If I fill her:
I get about 270 miles per tank...

I have been doing $10 at a time and getting about 150 miles out of that.

If you don't fill it, gas empties quick!

I have about 2,500 miles and have been averaging 22-24* mpg with an automatic and a combination of city and highway driving. I was expecting about 25 mpg, so I'm not extremely disappointed. However, I was getting the same mileage out of my 1998 GT with a manual transmission!
