Has anyone else experienced oil consunption on their GT? I just checked my oil because I get a puff out the tailpipe whenever I start it up. It is nearing the add line and I only have 650 miles on it.

I have been a dealership service employee for over 20 years and, as service manager, I know the party line about a new engine using oil, but never actually experienced it before.

From what I've seen on my mustang, and from what I have read, these V8 mustangs will burn about 1/2 of a quart to 1 quart of oil roughly every 5,000 miles. They may burn a bit more during the engine break in period. What your experiencing seems normal, but it never hurts to keep an eye on those things.

My does not use a drop. I change mine at least every 3000 (or will). Modern engines don't usually have the break in time like the old ones did. It is usually broke in the first few miles. I would get on a freeway and at about 65 or so, punch it hard a few times. Pedal to the floor. Slow back down to 60 or so each time. If it is still using oil after the first change I would say its not normal. You will probably get alot of different opinions on this.

Bears watching.....mine has used just less than 1/2qt. in 2500 miles - seems OK - I have 3500 miles (total) on the engine.

You may want to make a note of it with your dealer and keep an eye on it.

Hi Jack

Like your Fairlane. I had a Cyclone GT, loved it.

Have over 12K on my car. Changed to Mobil 1 @ 1K & haven't used any oil. I change my oil every 7K & car sees red line numerous times every day.

Go Mobil 1 if you haven't already.

Probably not the best thing for a car to let it idle for long periods anyway
