I am familiar with mechanical mods, but what is involved in performance tuning the new Mustang from the engine control standpoint?

Is it as simple as purchasing the mod software and hooking your laptop to the car?

I ask because the only cars I have modified are old (60's & 70's). The quest for horsepower involved an aftermarket cam, headers, carb, intake, and so on. It was mostly wrench work and then some tweaking.

There will probably be plenty of aftermarket companies that will send you a reprogrammed PCM chip and you send yours in to get the core charge back. I am not sure about what it takes to reprogram it yourself.

No No No The 05 Mustang can't have the chip done. The computer needs to be reflashed i.e. that means modified software is installed several companies are already doing this. You buy a hand held computer reprogramer with the software installed you hook it up to your car and it ask you a few questions and it programs it. If you do mods headers exhaust intake etc you can e-mail the company and they will e-mail you a new program.
