tranny swap

Anyone with a manual transmission consider swapping to a 6-spd as in late model Cobras? It would make 4:10's more inviting.

Looks like a major PITA!!!

Guess I will have to wait until 6 speeds become more mainstream...

It's not gonna get anymore mainstream than a T-56. They're in everything, vipers, f body's, vettes, terminators, gt500. They're pretty common.

We had such a good thread on a 6-speed tranny swap... pages long! not worth writing it all up again.

When the forums were going crazy a lot of threads were lost.

Hopefully, a cobra-spec T56 kit for the new Mustang will be available.

Yeah, that one was like 6 pages long, and a lot of good info.

True, six speeds are in a lot of other vehicles, but what I meant was that thread indicated that the six speed wasn't a drop-in replacement for the current Tremec POS.

The people doing the change out in the thread indicated that the bell housing, tranny mounts, and shifter had to be modded heavily in order to work (and last time I saw the thread it still wasn't working).

I don't have the time/resources to hit the machine shop for custom fabricated tranny mounts/bellhousing/shifter assy etc...

I would like to follow simple steps:

1) unbolt Tremec 3650 and toss in dumpster
2) bolt up new six speed
3) turn key and go!

Guess we aren't to that point yet. Maybe in a year or two when new 'Stangs come stock with a six speed...

Whishful thinking, they won't come from factory like that, otherwise, what would they put in the SVTs?

Sorry, I thought someone was looking for a drop-in replacement kit, to convert their 3650 to a T56.

Looks good!

Has anyone tried this? Right now I'm not man enough to drop the 5 large into the tranny swap but it's definitely food for thought!

Staying tuned... maybe the price will drop...
