Track Day
Hey guys. I was just looking through my local Mustang Club's calendar and they have track days scheduled every month. I think I'd really like to do this, but I know nothing about it. Can you guys fill me in on what I would need and just everything about it?

Dom is correct, contact the track and your Mustang club for rules/regs. A few pointers (not sure if you are dragging or road course):
* Your profile name indicates convertible...careful, some tracks/clubs do not permit convertibles to run.
* Find out the fees, sometime advance payment is much cheaper than 'at track' fees.
* See what groups they have (novice, beginner, intermediate, advanced, etc.) and run according to your experience - do not let pride get in the way.
* Understand the course and the rules for safety, passing, etc.
* If there is a driver's meeting, attend it.
* Wear pants and sneakers (no shorts, no open shoes).
* Helmet may be required, find out. You may have to purchase or rent. Be aware of the helmet ratings...many tracks do not permit motorcycle helmets.
* Find out the water/food situation beforehand.
* Supplies (for road course) - water, brake fluid, motor oil, funnel, towel, sunscreen, hat, numbers for your car, seat belt cushion, chair, cooler, ice paks.
* Before hand - check all tire pressures, all fluid levels, battery secure, clean all windows in-and-out.
A little O.C.D., I know, but I like to be prepared for anything.
Most of all..ENJOY and post pics!

Hey I really appreciate it guys!! I'm just looking to have a little fun with the car and see some other mustangs too. I know I'll just watch the first time and get all the questions you guys proposed answered. But really thanks again for all the suggestions! Sorry I can tell anymore
And as far as mods go... Ive only got cosmetic stuff. The clear turns gave me at least 20 though I figure haha. The only performance things I have planned right now are springs and struts and shocks. I'm thinking about going adjustable for track days like these. I figure I'll learn what I want to do soon enough. I also ordered the CDC aggressive and I could put a splitter on that and look official
As far as Cai and tuner, I'm not sure. $600 dollars is money to me that could be spent on other things right now.
Here's a pic! I've gotta show her off every chance I get!

Good looking car!
To clarify, are we talking drag racing or road course/autox kinda thing?
All the advice above is good, definitely make sure you have a helmet, borrow one from a friend or something, because it would suck to get to the event and then not get to run because you don't have one, and every track is different, my local track requires a helmet for cars running 13.99 or faster, and they require a roll bar for convertibles faster than a certain speed.. so you might check into that too.

The black convertible looks good! I hope you have fun running it! I know my first track day (road course) with my GT was unforgettable, now I'm hooked!

To answer a few more questions, it's a road race/auto x sort of thing. It's at the track where the sheriffs and police practice.
And my car is an automatic. I'm kind of regretting it now, but will that be too bad?
Thanks for the compliments guys!

Where in Okie are you?
Good options are always NASA HPDE, group1 folks have a mandatory instructor -- free training! These are generally racers or time-trialers, but do have to go through "instructor school" so not generally some yokel who steers you wrong.
Almost always < $300 per weekend, which is the cheapest instruction you'll find anywhere. Look into NASA Texas and NASA central, they're your closest.

http://www.nasatx.com/
Hallet is in Oklahoma, has a big cross-over meet in September with NASA Central and Rocky Mountain, though I don't believe they do HPDE then, just time trials and racing. Hallet has other events though http://www.hallettracing.net/
Tracks in Kansas, Texas probably within half day driving distance.
Or come up to Pueblo! I'll bring my used Tokico and Vogtlands![Wink](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Not far from the panhandle, at least.

Those all sound really good. I'll have to look into them. And I just read about hallette today! I was reading about the roush track pack and it said they tested it on that track in Oklahoma. I never had any idea there was any good track in Oklahoma. Small world though, one of our neighbors recently went up there to learn some driving things with his sons m3! Small world.
As far as pueblo... I know my parents and I went there when I was a kid for the nsra event! Could be doable! And what's this about tokicos??

One thing though, I had to check to verify:
Requirements
You'd be looking at something like these:
http://www.maximummotorsports.com/st...th=121_126_499
http://www.steeda.com/store/autopowe...d-mustang.html
They satisfy the requirement, though not necessarily the safest things unless welded in properly.

As you can see, a bolt-in rollbar doesn't always do much, even in a hardtop (those are the lower legs you see sticking out of the car's floor).
Requirements
Membership in NASA or a NASA sanctioned club
Any car in safe operating condition (from Ferrari to Hyundai)
Mufflers. Different tracks have different sound policies
Roll bars in convertible autos
Seat belts in good working order
State driver's license
Long sleeve shirt and pants (cotton is great)
A helmet
Knowledge of the Club Codes and Regulations
At least 18 years of age (16 w/parental consent)
The light bar you have doesn't count, unfortunately.Any car in safe operating condition (from Ferrari to Hyundai)

You might have to stick with the local Mustang club, then, assuming they do allow Verts without a rollbar. As it was stated above, sometimes it's track specific.
I'm not familiar enough with autocross to say what they allow.
