Which supercharger to get and why?
 

I have been researching superchargers for a while and I still havent been able to come up w/ anything substantial. So to the meat of it. I would like to do the install my self if that is a realistic goal I am not sure. I am looking to keep my car as a daily driver i just want to have a more HP. It is an 06' manual tranny. So for those of you that are superchargerd and did the install could you give me some feedback on what you wish you would have done differently and are you happy w/ the SC selection? And those of you that had them installed what do you think about the SC that you selected.

Whipple Gen 2 HO 10PSI kit... reliable... consistent... quality... customer service... Ford won't bust your balls AS bad... great power and torque numbers.

I think all the superchargers out there are good and have proven technology. How do I like my supercharger.... I LOVE IT!!! but i'm pretty sure if I had any other supercharger I would love it aswell...My centri reminds me more of a turbo, boost builds at about 3k rpm and it pulls hard all the way to the top. Twinscrews make boost lower in the rpm band so the only advantage they have over a centri is low in the rpm band, "instant torque" they call it... Centris will usually be $1000 cheaper than twinscrews... You will be happy either way...

Depends on where you want your power as Sonicboost already said.

If you get 4.10s and a centri you will get the best of both worlds! Oh, and at least $1000 cheaper

I agree as well, if you have 390s or numerically Higher I would go with a Centri (Although Tom281 has a TwinScrew and 410s and loves it)

I just personally believe its already a struggle to get the power to the ground with gears so adding all that low end power with a TS could make for a handful.

Whipple coming in close second, only if you do in fact have 410s-- And because I can't find it any better than $5499 (Not including gauges, or Dyno Tune)

Some numbers for you....... red curves are Saleen twinscrew hp & tq; blue curves are Vortech/Paxton hp & tq. Both blowers are pullied for 11psi; all other mods are the same including exhaust, wheels/tires, gears, etc.

Basically, you will note the Saleen makes more HP all the way to 6000rpm compared to the Vortech/Paxton combo. However by 6500rpm, the Vortech makes about 15hp more. As for torque, the Saleen is making mad torque as low as 2000rpm and by 2500rpm, it's making around 100+ more lb/ft than the Vortech/Paxton.

Tom was also using a vortech v2 head unit not a paxton 2200 head unit... I don't know if that makes a difference and I don't think it does but being as the vortech v2 is smaller than the paxtonn 2200 I thought I would just point that out...

well said...... check out MMFF supercharged! (june) they covered this topic in detail, i'll be looking hard at the MAGNA... the ease of installation make it a no brainer for me, i have to do all installs on my car.

That is true, however I wouldn't think it would make that much difference since 11psi is still 11psi. And by the way, I am not making the argument that one is better than the other, I'm only saying that they are indeed very different animals (talking centri vs. twinscrew) and that the common knowledge that centris pull harder up top is true, but usually (in my own personal case atleast) it's only at 6k and above. :nice:

In all honesty, you are being too vague. Just about every s/c kit out there is 'good' and one really isn't better than the other generally speaking. What comes into play is what do you want to do with your car and how far (power wise) you plan on taking it?

What you expect and want from the car and what you're needs are for the car will determine what S/C is best for you. Without that info, it's pretty much just brand loyalty suggestions...:dunno:

install- did it myself, if you can read and follow instructions, you can do it.

Where is the best place to get the whipple from? And what about tune? I'm 2 hours from a dyno, can a can tune work till I can get time to get on a dyno, and then once dynoed do I trust another tuner or send that info to Brent to revise the tune? The tune is the thing that bothers me. If I lived close to Bamachips, or Brenspeed , or some of the others I'd feel safe getting a dyno tune from them. I just don't know what to do. I'm about 30-60 days away from being ready to buy.
