its louder and has a lower tone i guess. No drone at cruising speed at all and now when I hit the gas at all I hear it better than I did before.
There is some drone if you want to call it that at certain speeds under light acceleration but nothing to complain about. I did go from the auto mufflers to the stick mufflers and the butcher job. I think with these mufflers you can get the sound you want with a little cutting here and there.

I did notice when I was under there that the pipe from the h pipe to the mufflers is labeled aoa also. Man I hate the flat spot in the pipe going over the axle. I supose thats eliminated on most after market cat back systems??

no pics sorry. I will have a sound clip up soon. I cut my access hole much smaller than you did and the hole I cut on the inside was a little less than thalf the size of what you cut.

Good - I am glad it worked out for you. I made the access hole on the first set I did large since I was not sure how much space I needed. I have since modified another set for a friend and (like you) I made the access hole much smaller.

The key to this whole idea is really trial and error. The Ford engineers that developed the exhaust spent a lot of time tuning it. I think I was lucky to make modifications and still have a decent sound, especially if someone else tries it and is happy. Hmm - That motivates me to try some other ideas I have been kicking around...

I say do it...get yourself an extra set off ebay for cheap...i spent 50.00 bucks on a virtually new set. You will have a unique inexpensive muffler...thanks RED454!

I think what you guys have done is essentially to re-create what the GTA's are....stock mufflers with less restriction/chambering...

So if I understand it correctly. You can cut just the top off of the back half of the muffler. Replace the 1.5" tube with a 2.5" hole & tube and then cut another 2.5" hole in the last baffle, welding a second 2.5 tube to that hole. Finally cuttting a hole in the exit tube and sealing up the muffler. Did you attempt to remove the FG from the exit tube?

I'm wondering if just having three 2.5" tubes running from the second to the third chamber would work. In essence cutting the fiberglassed section of the exhaust tube out completely.

One of the modifications involved cutting an opening into that pipe, as you can see in this picture. The two walls or layers are visible. There was not much fiberglass, but it was definitely sandwiched in there...

What I did in addition to opening the main pipe was to add a second tube into the resonating chamber. You can see the small tube (1.5 inch diam.) in the pic - I opened a hole into the divider wall and added a 2.5 inch dia. pipe next to the current one. Unfortunately I did not get any pics of the second modification before I welded the covers on.

The mods give the mufflers a deeper, more aggressive tone, with almost no drone.
this is basicaly what I did. Just cut a section out out the exit pipe. I didn't take out any packing other than the chunk of pipe that was cut out.

Glenn, your exhaust sounds great and I loved that video. I'll bet your neighbors just love you when you're racing around the "track"
