I have read several topics concerning flash tuning the 05 for enhanced performance. However, I only want to re-calibrate my speedometer for the new 3.73 gears that were installed. What is my best solution?

I'm interested to see these replies. Once we get the answer you have to tell us your thoughts on the 3:73 gears. I'm concidering them myself.

I just saw a product on two guys garage. They were fixing up a 96 mustang. They used a product to recalibrate the speedometer. It had dip switches inside so that you can put your specs in. I think they said that it was from Dallas Mustangs. Sorry I dont remember the exact details.

A '96? I don't know about that one..... I put 3.73s in my '98 GT and had to replace the speedo gear... it wasn't something that could be flashed.... I think it was the same situation for all years up through '04.... I believe the '05 is the first year that a flash recalibratoin is possible for the speedo.

I hope there is a way to do it cheaper than paying $325 for an Xcalibrator. Maybe I'll check with the dealership.

I just called my local Ford service department. The guy said $70 to recalibrate my speedometer after I have the 4.10s installed.

The question has never been answered as to where the speedo signal comes from. On the Lincoln LS and 2 seat T-Bird it somes from a wheel sensor. So you can change gears and the speedo + odo still read the same no need to re-cal. Recal is only required for tire size changes.
Hasn't anyone here purchased shop manuals for the '05 so we can answer this question for once and for all? |
speedo pickup is internal to the tranny, and it's not gear driven as far as I know. So your tuner or Ford do it through the OBD-II interface.

Like I said it was a 96 on the show. I am not sure if the car had a different speedo installed but they installed a product that they said took care of the speedometer calibration.
I found the link http://www.dallasmustang.com/index.mvc?Ses...b22b8e&p=973101 They may have misstated the year of the car they were working on. |
