Well since SLP loudmouths are officially a ripoff and I can get a custom muffler delete for much much cheaper. I'm looking at different mufflers. I live in CA and with a custom job with no mufflers I'll never pass the visual smog test.

I was thinking, anyone have the list of axle-back kits and the gains?

Blullitt05 9/18/05 05:17 PM

Some people will argue that the SLP is not a "rip-off".

MM&FF did a testing, and Bassani made th biggest gains. For the price, I opted for the Flowmasters American Thunder kit. Sounds great, and adds a bit of pep.

i dont think the SLPs are a ripoff at all. 220 shipped and its a lot easier than anything else to install, they sound great, and still cheaper than any other kit.

Who said you would fail a smog for no mufflers? The cats are what they are looking for... right?

And besides, in California, you don't need to worry about a smog test for six years (until 2011). :nice:

Budders 9/18/05 06:09 PM

Hooray for not worrying about your problems :w00t:
:jester:
i'd rather pay more for something i know is going to fit, work and look good instead of making custom straight pipes

Mufflers reduce sound, not emissions. There's a sticky at the top of this subforum called "The 2005+ Exhaust thread" You might find some help there.

SixtySix 9/18/05 06:34 PM

So is your custom straight pipe going to include CNC'd double walled machined tips :hmm: probably not.

No, but you can choose cheaper or better tips... :jester:

I heard SLP Loudmouths are increasing to $320. Add shipping/tax and you're looking at $350 - that's a ripoff 4 sure.

TehSLeeper 9/18/05 10:53 PM

I was going to buy them when they were 220 then 3 days later they wnet up to 315 and gradually kept getting more expensive. They're almost to 400 dollars now. If they were cheaper I'd buy them.

SixtySix 9/18/05 11:09 PM

Oh! I was not aware they went up that far.

Nevermind, you're right...that's waaaay too much for what they are.

don_w 9/18/05 11:14 PM

I got mine "pre-owned" for $150+shipping... maybe others will be for sale, too.

StangNut 9/19/05 02:35 AM

They were only a little overpriced before but now they are WAY overpriced now.
Finding a used set would be the way to go.

94tbird 9/19/05 06:31 AM

cant believe they are 300 now. i think i would still buy them

94tbird 9/19/05 06:34 AM

i found em for 294 free shipping www.lmperformance.com

nynvolt 9/19/05 08:30 AM

I thought $220 was pretty high for what amounts to about 3 foot of maderal bent pipes and two nice tips but bought them and still love em. The tips are by far the best looking (its subjective and only my personal opinion) out there.

I live in california and passed smog with flex pipe after my muffler fell off my old Renault :-D That was probably ten years ago though, the test has changed quite a bit now.

acadian 9/19/05 08:39 AM

ANyone have a rear shot of their car, who have the SLP Loudmouths installed. I'd pay $300 shipped for this setup if the tips are as good as everyone says. :nice:

Some confusion may be caused when looking online because of the 2 different sub-products

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/05gtslp.htm

the "Loudmouths" and the "Powerflows"

has anyone tried the powerflows?

I'm nervous about just eliminating the mufflers entirely w the Loudmouths, I suppose I could get away with it in Texas, but its probably going to enrage my neighbors

What does it matter if you're not paying for them? Your sig says you're a full time college student. So how did you pay for all of the other mods? :dunno:

I agree that the price increase is rediculous. I bought mine for $255 shipped way back. I might need to sell them though. If someone makes a decent offer, they're yours.

I originally bought the PowerFlos, and I loved them. I thought they sounded and looked great. After hearing all the Borla/FRPP, etc. clips recently, I would compare the PFs to those (just a small 5" dia muffler). But, on a whim, I decided to test out a set of Loudmouths. After driving it for a week with the LMs, I decided to keep the LMs and sell the PFs. My wife and I both preferred the "wake the dead" sound of the LMs!! :nice:
