What are the differences between the shorties and the long tube headers as far as performance and gains?

Long tubes will outperform the short tubes by considerable numbers.
If you don't have strick smog laws the long tubes would be the best and the shorties not worth the money IMHO.

My son does inspections. Do you think he would fail his dad. :-D

Do all long tubes create smog issues? I will have to deal with California smog laws. Do you know if any of the existing long tube headers pass CA smog regs?

TIA,
Norman

if you live in CA (like me), you need to have headers that have been issued a CARB#. basically, a CARB# means that the part has been certified by the CA smog Nazis as a part that is OK to run on street vehicles in CA. if it doesn't have a CARB#, you'll have problems when you go to smog. and don't go for headers that are CARB pending, either. that certification process can take years and you don't want to still be waiting for that CARB# when it comes time to smog. i don't know if anyone has CARB legal headers yet, but i'd check w/ JBA. they usually get they're stuff certified pretty fast since they're located in San Diego.

The only ones I know of are the JBA shorties and that's what I have on my car. The C.A.R.B. number is clearly indicated on the driver's side header. No number and you will fail visual smog inspection.

You won't get much if anything from a set of Shorties on the 05 GT, but you will get about 15-20Hp from Long tubes.

At least that is what I gather from everyone elses posts.
