S197 Budget Big Beale Kits
 

I’m looking at upgrading the stoping power of my S197. I’ve already gotten upgraded pads and slotted/cross drilled rotors from Power Stop (Z23) but I think I’ll just be happier if I did a Big Brake Kit but I’m on a bit of a budget. I’ve seen thes other S550/GT500 15” kits and I think that’s a bit big and they’re not really “budget” since I can get a willwood kit for the exact same price these people are parting these kits together for. But I’m trying to only spend $2K front and rear and I don’t know how to get it done.

For a budget upgrade, the rears are easy. Just use the stock calipers/pads and upgrade to larger rotors using aftermarket caliper relocation brackets or the factory caliper mounts from the 2013 GT 500. The Shelby parts are available through Ford parts and are a direct bolt on, but they require you to pull the axles. The aftermarket relocation brackets are a direct bolt between the stock mounting brackets and the calipers. They do not require axle removal. I prefer the Shelby set up since it looks factory and you can use any aftermarket rotors that fit the 2013 Shelby. There are more rotor options with the Shelby set up. You can purchase the Shelby caliper mounts and Centric premium rotors for less than $400.

The fronts I would stick with the 14" or 15"4 Brembo's that were offered by the factory. If you look around you can get a pair of used calipers for less than $500. There are a couple of salvage yards that sell used kits complete with rotors, pads, and brake lines. I wouldn't put used rotors on my car and to be safe I would put in new seal kits ~$50. Then it is up to you on what you want to spend on rotors and pads. Rotors can be had from $100 each up to several hundred for two piece with aluminum hats.
