Replacing Factory Hoodliner w/Dynamat

Has anyone done this? Your input and pictures would be greatly appreciated. I ask because mine factory hoodliner looks awful and since I'm going to be Dynamatting the interior I thought I should do the hood as well.

Just ditch the hood liner. I did on my 07 Redfire. Paint was not as bad as I thought it woul dbe underneth. Polish that sucker up, and add a personal flair under there, fpr "show-times".

Not really any downsides to taking it off...Probably might hear a little more engine/exhaust noise...

Why would the factory put it on in the first place?

The hoodliner is there for fire suppression.

In the event of an engine fire the plastic clips holding the hoodliner melt and the hoodliner falls in an attempt to smother any fire.

This is an urban legend. The hood liner is there for sound supression only. By the time those hood pin clips melted your car would be long gone.

+1 The only purpose of the hoodliner is to tone down engine noise to the cabin.

More engine noise in the cabin would be great! Dynamatting the hood might not be a good idea then. Doing up the back seats and trunk is a better idea I think.

Apparently Ford thinks so as well. The 2010's have a "sound induction tube" to conduct engine sounds into the cabin. Pics in the latest Car and Driver pg. 52.

Take it off and see what it looks like.If the paint sucks you can take it off and rattle can it.Do a diff. color or try Tower Paint.com they custom mix your color in large spray cans the match is perfect.

all kidding aside, if you want look into airbrushing. people have there plenum covers and rad cover, etc airbrushed. why not keep the factory liner and have it airbrushed with your design of choice. it would look real good when you have that bad boy parked at a show and you pop open that hood, plus you could do your rad cover, plenum cover if you have one and other under hood items to make everything match and add some killer styling.

being you said your lining looks bad, get a replacement oem peice and give it a shot.

let us know your final decision, im interested to see what you do and how it works out.
