rear upgrade swap

hi there..

is there a better quality rear (pumpkin) that can be purchased with the correct gears already installed ready to go?

all u got to do is swap the stock pumpkin for this entirely better quality one?

doing this instead of installing 3.55 or 3.73 gears for an auto GT stang.

thanks!

You're talking about a carrier-based setup, like the Ford 9" rear end. You'd need to replace the entire housing to convert over, along with all the internals, but if you need to change gears frequently (road course stuff), then it would pay off in terms of time and small parts savings. Once the carrier is set up, it stays that way, and you can swap them out in about 40 minutes, once you get the hang of it.

I remember reading somewhere that Currie Enterprises makes a conversion kit for the S197 chassis, with a new 9" housing, axles, caliper mounts, and welded up with the proper UCA and LCA mounting flanges. It's not particularly cheap, but it is an effective solution for what you're looking for.
