Poor Man's Shelby

Shout out for ideas to make this work. Take off Shelby GT500 supercharger going onto a 5.4 DOHC Navigator engine already installed into 2006 S197. Will I need intercooler? What size pulleys? 10.5:1 compression. I'm thinking 2003 cobra lower intake and intercooler with adapter plates.

I would use an intercooler for sure. Looks like a cool project. Please keep us posted.

If that things puts down some good power and holds together, the wheels are already spinning in my head.

Cool! Just a thought, but would it be practical to source a GT500 manifold and modify it for your needs since it has an integrated heat exchanger?

If I had to guess, it might require welding or epoxying up the ports then porting them so that the manifold would fit the navi heads.

Afterwich you could source additional GT500 stuff to complete the S/C install.

How much work was it to put the 5.4 into the early S197?

I'm thinking an N/A build.

4.6 and 5.4 blocks are the same size. So they fit the same

I'm pretty sure the overall width is wider because of the 4 cam heads. I believe the later S197 had the strut towers pushed out for fitment on the GT500.

Yes the S-197 is wider overall to accomodate the 5.4 4v but you can squeeze a 5.4 4v into an SN95, Ford did it with the 2000 R-Model Cobra.

Check the FRPP catalog (available online) to see if they have any 2000 R-Model conversion parts to make the job easier.

You can also fit the 6.8L V10 in the SN95 as well.

Again.. the 4.6 and 5.4 blocks are the same size... Cobra have been 4v since 96. And they did not widen the strut towers... Cobra r 5.4 is the same overall size of my 4.6 cobra.
