Paxton 2200 leaking coolant
 

I just got a 2200 Paxton Supercharger and I'm having a problem with leaking from around the base of the radiator coolent cap. I cleaned the threads, tried plumbers tape, and even changed the cap, but it still keeps leaking. I've been told that this is a problem that other people had with the 2200. It seems to me like the neck of the tank is smaller than the radiator cap, so the threads are not tighly sealing the the cap. Any ideas on how to fix this without having Paxton send me a new coolant tank? :dunno:

Did you try a bit of Teflon?

Just out of curiosity is it leaking all the time or just when hot? Also is this a new install or has it been on for a while?

Hum, I had not heard of problems with these. I had an intercooler setup from Paxton that I used with my Vortech blower and it didn't have any problems. :dunno:

It's a new install. It only leaks when the engine warms up. Paxton said they will ship me a new coolant tank, but I was hoping for an easy fix. It seems like if I could get a thin piece of rubber around the threads on the tank spout the cap wouldn't leak.

Are you talking about a teflon tape?

I don't know if yours uses a pressure cap, my Saleen uses a pressure cap just like the radiator cap. If it is a pressure cap is it possible you have it overfilled slightly and it's coming out the cap when it heats up and expands. When I did mine a filled it to the brim because I figured there would be some air in the system that would work its way out. I had some slight leakage the first several heat up cycles but now it's fine. Just a thought but I would think that would be the first thing Paxton would have suggested when you talked to them:dunno:

But seriously- let us know what the problem is because I plan on pulling the trigger on a Novi2200 sometime in the next few months

The tank is only half full so it's not an overfill issue. I just got some thicker teflon tape and wrapped the threads to see if that will work. I think I''m going to have to have to find a tighter fitting cap or change the coolant tank.

Is this the factory collant or the one that comes with the kit? I have not had this problem but I will double check..

Installed mine last week with the same problem. Half tank of coolant and it was seeping. I pushed down on my cap and tightened it until it clicked then pushed down a little harder and it tightened up some more before it clicked again. This solved my issue, not sure if its the tightning or the coolent level corrected itself. I don think teflon will help though, the way the caps seal are in the cap itself. There is a rubber gasket in the top of the cap that seals on the top of the threads.
