Need Advice On Correct Serpentine Belt Size/Part# For Saleen VI S/C With 3.6" Pulley
In need of locating the correct serpentine belt size/part# for Saleen VI S/C which has the 3.6" blower pulley. After checking JDM engineering and Brenspeed's website, both confirmed that Gates Micro-V (K061080) is the correct belt/part number which has an effective length of 108.18". However, according to Saleen performance parts website, their description claims otherwise by stating their serpentine belt for the 2005-09 Saleen S302E is the correct one for the 3.6" drive pulley, despite having a shorter 107.38" effective length. Needless to say, I'm completely stumped as to which is the correct belt according to the Saleen performance website description. Anyhow, I've went ahead and attached a portion of the Saleen website description. Meanwhile, I hope that someone can chime in regarding the Saleen website description claims
Serpentine Belt 107.38" 05-09 S302E

These 6-rib 107.38" serpentine belts run quieter, stretch less, and transfer more power than other belts. As they warm up, the composite construction between the cords and rubber compound becomes more efficient at turning your engine's accessories. And by absorbing the shock and vibration transmitted from the crank pulley, the belts can help your harmonic damper to better reduce harmful vibrations.
OEM replacement for 2005-09 S302E (Extreme) and fits and Saleen Series VI, VI.5 Saleen Supercharger system with the 3.6" Supercharger Drive Pulley.

The Saleen recommended 107.38" belt is correct IF you are using all the supplied parts in the kit including the 76mm plastic grooved Idler Pulley. This pulley has been problematic in some applications as it will not only flex under torque but can shred belts when RPMS is suddenly reduced. JDM's belt sizing is predicated on their recommendation that you replace the plastic Saleen pulley with the stock METAL 90mm smooth idler pulley. FYI - the idler pulley is not a driven pulley so it has no underdrive effect on the alternator or supercharger.

On a lighter note, where have you been hiding? Haven't seen you around here in ages and thought you disappeared off the face of the earth or something

m05fastbackGT - yes, we're both talking about the idler pulley on the driver side below the alternator. Thanks for asking about my seeming absence from the forum. About four years ago I moved from SoCal and bought a home near Morgantown, WV. Kind of a coming home since I was raised in Allentown, PA. Actually, I visit the forum regularly but rarely contribute to threads because folks like yourself, VGMstudios, Norm Peterson, et. al. do such a great job of mentoring the newbies (and reminding us old guys) about the care and feeding of the S197 Mustang. You guys paid the price, did the hard work, and busted more than a few knuckles. I still do quite a bit of new mods and upgrades to old ones on the Mustang but, alas, I live in the land of trucks, SUVs and ATVs. lol.

Good to know it was the right pulley lol. I also want to say thank you for the very kind words, as there aren't many of us old guys left that still contribute to the site, but the folks you mentioned including myself do our very best to provide feedback and support for those who are in need, especially for the newer members who have become recent S197 owners. Thanks to them, perhaps they'll bring new life back into the S197 community by increasing activity to forums such as TMS and other S197 forums. In the meantime, it's good to hear from you once again and glad that you've been doing well and staying safe during this Covid-19 pandemic which has been going on now for nearly a year. That being said, stay safe, don't be a stranger and keep in touch.
