Looking for new front brakes...need some advice
 

I am looking for a new set of front brakes that won't break the bank. I plan on taking my car to the track at least 4 times a year so I want something that will last and resist fade.

I am comparing the 3 following entry level kits and was hoping some people here may have them and tried them at a track and would let me know how they faired.

SS Brakes Front Force 10 Disc Brake Kit
- 13" 1 piece slotted rotors
- 3 piston calipers

Baer GT-Plus Brake Kit
- 14" 2 piece drilled rotors
- 2 piston calipers

Shelby GT500 Brake Kit
- 14" 1 piece solid rotors
- 4 piston calipers

All 3 kits are similarly priced so it is a hard decision.

I like the Baer and Shelby kits. I like the Baer the best because it's a 2 piece drilled rotor. You're going to love that setup.

I have the SSBC kit on mine and have been very happy with it. I have road coursed my car several times at willow springs and they have been flawless!..if you call SSBC ask for Ray Gorman.. Tell him Chris from B&M referred you.. You may get a deal. I'm sure Tillaman has good prices on them also

Ya it seems like a trade off between the 2-piece rotor of the Baer and the 4 piston caliper of the GT500. I was trying to save some weight so I was leaning towards the Baer, but I can't determine if the Bear 2-piston caliper will be any better than stock.

Baer has a kit with brackets that allow you to use the factory calipers on their 2-piece rotors. No sense in spending the bucks for their 2-pistons

Baer big brakes or steeda big brake kit is what I am looking into for my stang

You can't go wrong with either. I was hanging out with the guys from SSBC at SEMA. They seem to be good guys and really proud of their product.

Baer has always been a great name in braking systems. The advantage of going with the full system is not only do you get the 14" rotors, but you get much nicer calipers. The rears are caliper relocation brackets, which we've yet to have here at the shop as they're a new item. I just sold a set today to a guy, and I'm hoping when he gets them he'll give us some insight on how they are after install.

These are drag brakes.... not intended for road use.

Super light and super small, but great for race vehicles.

I think BAER is going to be the nicest option for you.

The build time on Bayer is usually right around 3 weeks tops!

Thanks for the all the input. It will either be the Baer kit or the GT500. I am currently leaning towards the Baer. Now I just gotta pull my car out of storage so I can see if the brakes will fit with my rims and I'll be in business.

The Baer kits take a few weeks to build. What size wheels do you have?

I have 18x8.5" rims up front. I printed out the size template from Baer's site so I'll size them up sometime this week.

I'll chime in - I have the GT500 kit on my car and have been very happy with it so far, although I haven't had the opportunity to test them on the road track. The initial bite wasn't that much better then stock (esp right when I put them on), but once you're into them, they are very strong and stay strong all the way to the floor. I can't stand driving other cars now because I've gotten spoiled by my powerful brakes.

Were I to do it again, I would probably opt to get a) different rotors (2 piece, slotted or drilled) instead of the GT500 rotors b) higher performing pads c) stainless lines. However, a & b are very inexpensive with the GT500 kit, and you use the stock lines, so at the time it was the best financial decision for me. Once I need to replace the rotors and pads, I'll likely be upgrading.

By the way, I'm in the process of repainting my calipers porsche red and will be stenciling the brembo logo back on, but slightly larger (hey, i paid for 'em, i want it to show!). my boyfriend's shop does this on porsches all the time so i trust the work will be perfect.

Well I measured and it turns out a 14" kit will not fit with my rims. For some reason my rims have a lip towards the outside (where the spokes are) and the caliper will not fit because of this. So I am going to check is the SSBC kit will fit, otherwise I might just have to go with replacement rotors in the mean time.
