I'm getting ready to install my Hurst shifter on Monday with my neighbor. There has been alot of discussion about some issues with the shifter and I need convincing that I should go ahead and install it. I have a set of Steeda bushings that I can put in my stock shifter and that is my alternative if too many people say they hate it.

Much better.

I know I've been a bit vocal about it but that's just me...I'm kind of blabby anyway and have been known to talk for hours about a simple washer or lock nut (it keeps neighbors from bothering me too much when I'm working in my garage). To be sure, I like it better than stock, my brain just has to catch on that this is a new breed of transmission and "remote" linkage that don't shift the same as an old 4-speed Toploader or Muncie anyways. PS I voted "I love it" but I was torn between answering "has problem but better than stock"...I don't think it's the shifter, but more like the qualities of the trans and linkage design.

I like it now that that its in. Its looks pretty flimsy..doesn't it?
At least when compared to the STEEDA's piece. Shorter throws, goes right into gear, and the chrome stick with white goes well. I dont like the lack of stops, but who really needs to shift that hard. Would I buy it again, why not :) |
Waiting for MGW to have thier shifter out in late fall.
laters P-R |
I just got done installing the shifter and everything went very smooth. I had one metal bushing that was flat on one side and went the entire length of the urethane bushing. The shifter reminds me of my muscle cars from the 60's. I like everyhting about it except I will change out the white ball for a black one.

And better yet, why? I loved the Tri-Ax in my '03, but when I drove my buddy's Cobra the other day, I hated his after getting so used to the '05. (Clutch was a PIA too) I wanted an aftermarket short shifter in the '05 until then. Now I'm not sure. EDIT: Just to clarify. The Cobra I drove had a Tri-Ax. |
I have the Hurst on order and with the comments I kind of wish I had waited to order it. I also ordered a black knob so that delayed my shipment.

The VP of that company is my buddy's cousin. They have just started R&D. This is top quality stuff, I'm really looking forward to these coming out this winter. |

I don't know if you say you hated it because of a bad experiance, or because you like the Tri-Ax. If you voted because you are a Tri-Ax kinda guy, it's misleading to us who are interested in buying the Hurst. You should have a category for "Rather have a ..." than saying you hated it. I'm not trying to push your buttons, I just want to know what bad experiance you've had with this new Hirst shifter, because as my sig says...it's next on my list. |
