Handbrake/e-brake

My E-brake went out and I’m into drifting and stuff like that, so my whiles toon is can I use a hydraulic hand brake as an e brake and does anyone have any recommendations

I Would Still Repair Existing E-brake as Well if Possible!

what year is your car?

On the S197 cars, the hand brake uses a cable to a lever on the back of the rear calipers, which activates the same caliper as the regular brakes. There is not a separate drum or caliper for the hand brake, like there is on some other cars. I guess it would be possible (anything is possible) to add some kind of hydraulic system, but that seems like a big custom project, so the practical solution is to fix the cable, or whatever broke.

I guess serious drifters might use a different hand brake setup, not sure?

What in the heck are you talking about, clarify what you mean by "whiles toon"??? If you're going to go through all the hassle of installing a hydraulic hand brake, then why not just replace the E-brake cable, to begin with? :dunno:

my best guess is that "whiles toon" is autocorrect for "question" LOL

and this did make me wonder if the Mustang hand brake is up to the task for drifting, I have a feeling that's how the cable got broken in the first place

I Don't Text So You Guess is Better Than Mine. Could Be Slang for Question as Well. If You Click on Profile About Me He Has an 05 GT. He Never Said Exactly What Broke on E-Brake System. All We Can Do is Answer as Best We Can With What we are Supplied.

I have no idea as to whether "whiles toon" is some form of autocorrection or a slang term... Either way, I've never come across such a word before. :dunno:

Although I do text on a daily basis, I am not familiar with the word "whiles toon". Perhaps it very well could be a slang term for question, and if it is? this would be the first time I've ever seen it posted anywhere. :dunno:

Likely a voice to text. I've used it some, but with my hillbilly accent it will replace some of what I say with some off the wall crap that makes no sense.

yes indeed, you would not believe what autocorrect comes up with for my fat-fingered typing on those ridiculous touch-screen keypads .... sometimes it even takes words that I spelled correctly and converts them to something completely unintelligible ... I keep thinking I should turn it off, but it helps about 50% of the time and hurts the other 50%, so it's a tie

Exactly my reason for disliking phones with touch screen keypads... Despite autocorrect functionality, 95% of the time words get placed into the wrong section of the paragraph and then have to go back manually to remove the autocorrected word and re-type the paragraph section all over again anyhow, so what purpose is it really good for anyhow? Needless to say, I never encountered any typing related issues when I still had my Blackberry phones which still included an actual keypad with physical buttons!

well, I wouldn't say "never" LOL .. but yeah, I'd take a Blackberry over my i-phone any day ... real physical keys are much better for big calloused fingers; and I liked the simple and transparent file system much better too

I still have both Blackberry phones that are still in very excellent condition. The last model was the KeyOne from 6 years ago followed by the KeyTwo from 5 years ago... Both phones were manufactured by TCI communications based in Taiwan which at that time had a licensing agreement with Blackberry... Only reason for upgrading to the current Google Pixel 7 was due that no further updates were available for Android operating system 7 along with support ending for Blackberry software apps and security updates, otherwise, I would still have the Blackberry KeyOne active to this day...

Now you know the reason I hate auto correct lol. Meanwhile, thanks for clarifying as it's much appreciated! :nice: Also just another reason I have never posted in the forums from a cell phone, but always from a PC that still uses an old school keyboard. :yup:

OK, now that we are back on topic ...Romansexton;
  • do you feel like you need something better than the stock cable-operated hand brake, for drifting?
  • how did the cable break -- was it from hammering it while drifting?
I have seen the huge brake levers that they use in drifting cars and I wouldn't be surprised if one of those would put so much force on the cable that it would break.
