GT500 Brakes

Hey fellas. I was hoping on doing a gt500 front brake swap on my car and possibly a 13inch steeda upgrade in the rear.

Now with the gt500 brakes. What spacing of wheels must I have or what spec wheels will fit them? I am not to fond of the gt500 wheels, so its going to be something different. Also, since I dont plan on doing a gt500 and wheel upgrade at the same time, im wondering if I can buy the wheels and use them first then after a few months of me saving I can buy the brakes too.

I would also like to hear about the front gt500 brembo deals. What am I looking at spending? I have been shopping around and have seen anywhere between 1200bux to 2200bux for basicaly the same package. Ideally I would like to stay under a grand for the fronts. Is that possible? I dont plan on geting two pice rotors for the car anytime soon either.

On the grand scheme of things, what do you guys recommend/advise?

Best bang for the buck are the GT4 Hypercoated.

Best looking…Shelby CS66 and Shelby CS69.

Or look up wheels for the GT500 at Tirerack.com.

Ford Racing 14" brake upgrade cost $1,489! Any deal below that cost is good but I doubt you could find one for less than $1000.

You could go on and upgrade the rear brakes with Steeda's Rear 13" brake kit for $500 now without ugrading the wheels.

Alrite, is there another alternative manufacturer of big brake kits? Do any of you have them? Any suggestions and price?

Brembo's Big Brake Kit cost from a little over $2000 to a little over $3000.
The Ford Racing kit appears to be the best value since they are Brembo brakes as well.

Saw a listing on corral.net for GT500 stuff. Front brakes were listed at 550.00 or so, for take-offs. They were listed in the 2005+ classified area. At work, can't access that site from here to give you a link, sorry.

I saw that. Does anyone have any real info on how much better the braking is with these brakes? Is it worth going with the upgraded rotors/calipers instead of just upgrading the stock rotors/pads/lines?

Well the braking for street would be close between an upgraded stock gt setup and a gt500 setup. However if you plan on tracking the car or driving very harshly with heavy use of brakes, then the brembos will be worlds better.

They don't fade, and they will outlast the gt brakes under heavy conditions.

I am unsure of the dusting capacities of the brembos but if they act like every other brembo setup ive seen, they will coat your rims in dust in less than 20miles and will squeak. Other than that. I hope to get a set. The pads and rotors will also cost more to replace FY on the brembos.

It looks like im picking up the takeoff set from corral. However it does not look like they come with brake lines.

Anyone have any info on getting the steel braided lines? Where can I get them from?

The only down side to me picking up the brembos now is that I cant install them now due to not having a budget for new wheels and tires. The second down side is that I now have to wait about 6months to get the watts link ive been drooling over. So the brakes will sit as a paper weight for about a year. Ah well, id better get em now, simply because I dont know if I can get them later on.

dax says the brakes have less than 2miles on them. So basicaly new takeoffs.

At what power level are these brakes really needed? I really like the FR500 rims, but they will not fit gt500 brakes. I'm shooting to have around 600rwp by the time i'm done with ym car, would the stock GT brakes be ok or woudl I really need the gt500 ones?

Up to you really. There's not a HP number where you switch over. Depends on how much abuse your car sees. Remember its not just about brakes but also if not more importantly a good set of tires.

Simply put, autocross or dragstrip? If dragstrip then some steel braided lines and a aggressive set of calipers will do wonders.

However cornercarving requires brakes that can take repeated abuse. Brembo is good for that. They are designed with a much heavier vehicle in mind and will do even better in a gt. They will not fade as fast if any fade and will not warp or mangle themselves as easily. They will outlast the gt brakes.

The down side to brembo brakes is that they will dust allot more, and they might squeal during certain conditions, a set of pads will cost allot more as well. ~200bux per pair. They also weigh a decent amount.
