Gear Swap Poll

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on some 4:10 gears for my 5-speed manual.
1. I would like to know where you got your's?
2. Did you buy the install kit also?
3. Shop or dealership?
4. Total cost?
5. Is the bearing cap kit necessary for a car that probably will never see the track?

Extremely satisfied!! I love them!!
JBA Racing did the whole thing for me. Parts & installation. $625 (that's the going rate around here)

i had 3.73s in my 2001 5 speed and my (ex) wife had 4.10s in her 00 auto...i liked driving her car almost as much as mine
when i picked up the 05 (auto) there was, for a moment, a hesistation to go to 4.10s simply because of the new trannys ratios. but i pony'd up and got em. very impressed....woke the car up.
i ordered my kit from JPCRacing. i dont remember how much everything was, but i had a local shop, ShreveRacing do the install. Havent had any problems....want to say i blew about $500 total. thats the gears, labor, gear install kit and royal purple gear oil.
gears whine a little at lower speeds, but its nothing unbearable, and if youre not listening for it you probably wouldnt even notice.
edit:i just realized you posted your car was a 5 speed manual. there is no question. get them. heck, if i were you id have gotten 4.30s

I am extremely satisfied! Had them installed about a year ago in Torrance, (expensive), about $800 with the reflash. Swanson Performance was the shop. Had the shop order the parts and do the install so they would be totally responsible for the outcome.
If I were to keep the stock 27" diameter tires, I would have had 4.30's installed.

I spent about a G($1,000.00) . Labor, parts and tuner with tuning @ CJ pony parts.
If you are serious about driving this car, you need these gears. You will be blowing doors off. It made the car so quick.

I put 4.10's in last week, will not be able to try them out untill the spring when the snow is gone. Spent $145.00 for the gears, about $100.00 for seal, crush washer, nut, shims, lube and friction modifier. (new synthetic lube was the big expense).
Did the install myself. I'm sure the gears will be worth it preformance wise.

Quick question, I do alot of highway driving, what is the RPMs at say 80mph. And how is the gas mileage with these?

2800 rpm = 81.81 mph on the manual 5 speed.

I love mine. They are Ford Racing gears for about $180. Installation was $175 from local shop. Had to use new bearings and shims which came out to about $15. $370 for the whole deal is not bad.
Although, I already had an Xcal 2 so we were able to change the speedometer with that. Since I got Ford Racing gears and had a good shop install, there is no gear whine.
Gas mileage was a bit worse after install but I'm going to add some underdrive pulleys to compensate.
I agree that 80 MPH is about 2800 RPM which isn't bad. I do a ton of highway driving and I have no problem.
Great mod if you aready have a tuner or plan on getting one. Car launches like a rocket now.

just put my 4.10's in yesterday. No probs with the install and the car acts like it should have had them from the factory! I am going to break'em in for another 100 miles or so, but I can feel the difference just driving normally.

I just have a question.....
I have 3.73 gears sitting here for my auto, and the local ford dealer quoted me for 700 dollars to install. I told them what i typed below, and their quote seems a bit outrageous if you ask me...
They are used gears (less than 100 miles), with a bearing already pressed on, I have a motive shim kit (the gears are motive, btw) and I already have an xcal2 and can change the ratio in the computer. All I really need is the gears to be put in correctly and then buttoned up, the rest I can do.
What do you guys think a reasonable estimate for an install would be? I'll be calling performance shops tomorrow, since most are closed at this time.
Thanks for any help..
