Don't skimp on after market parts
 

I recently developed a major thump while doing a break tq or appling full throttle while driving. After messing with my trans mount for a few days I decided to reinstall my stock upper control mount .... That fixed the problem. I believe I had a lakewood adjustable piece in there. It was a less expensive arm than other places out there.
Any way problem solved. Just a werd of warning.

Yeah it has been a pretty good arguement over time on parts. research, ask, research again and then spend your money on quality parts. They last much longer, do what they are designed to do and do it well and while they don't add tons of value most if us know who the high quality companies are, so at the very least a used modded stang with quality parts would have my interest. Oh and sorry lakewood is not one of them nor is hotchkis imo for starters.

That sucks to hear, I like the look of the Steeda ones.

It did werk well for a while and I guess I should have posted a pic of the problem. I did pull the the bumper out a bit, the center spacer is flush when the bumper isnt pulled out.

How many miles on it. I think I might have a lakewood one too.

I don't think miles have a lot to do with it, I think it's the abuse it received

maybe around 10 to 12k but I do a bit of brake tq not brake tq where I spin the tires but just before they spin before take off.

Well it looks like its been though several winters is why I asked for miles:dunno:. I autocross my car and have looked at my upper arm and it looks like brand new. No problems, no sound, no movement. Glenn's looks like its been though the wars.:confused:

The back seat and rear suspension can only handle so much stress Glenn. Try getting a room, some places will let you rent by the hour. ;)

You the consumer make a huge investment when purchasing your cars. Always do your homework when looking for aftermarket parts.... Many companies claim to have a high quality product at such a cheap price, but it in the end, it could end up costing you a lot more than expected.

I am lowered with the steeda sports but from what I understand my pinion angle should be ok with the stock piece in there???? Your thoughts please

Can you describe the thump you heard/felt? I have been chasing one in the rear of my car for a few years now. I don't get it while breaking, mostly when taking off from a dead stop under normal acceleration and hard. I have felt it while cruising then hitting it but not often, mostly from a dead stop. I did find the stock bushing on the rear that the upper link connects too was trashed, replaced that and it was good for about a day then slowly started coming back. I have the Steeda upper 3rd link in there too.

That sounds exactly what was happening to me. Also when driving normally there a distinct clicking sound when the trans shifted. I have been running a tune for a long time which firmed up the shifts. I almost thing it is happening to the stock piece now the clicking sound when it shifts. I'll let it go for a while.

Interesting you mention the tune. I have wondered if mine was related to the clutch/tranny because of that, like it's it's engaging hard. I also run a one peice DS which I suspect could be the cause due to rubbing but it's only a thump, never a grind or squeal. There are very slight scrapes on it in a couple spots but nothing that appears to match a constant thump I have heard for years now. I have felt the thump at times in the shifter as well as the steering column. One other thing I have to check is the motor mounts. Without taking them apart, I can see on the right one, one of the bushings appears to be flattened and looks like a bulging disc in a spine. Years ago I did find the bolts where loose (Steeda mounts installed by Steeda). I tightened them up, then had Steeda check them and they said they where tight and the flattened looking bushing was normal. I'm not so certain about that and suspect the engine does shift a little bit due to it hence the thump I feel time to time in the steering column.

Please let me know if you find the cause of yours. I will do the same if i find mine.

I started out thinking it was a motor mount seeing how I removed them to install my headers. They were all good, then I moved on the the trans mount and found that to be good as well. Finaly found it was the uca. I also have a one piece drive shaft. Everything seem pretty much normal since I put the stock uca back in. Just a little bit of clicking/clanking when it shifts. It may be due to the shaft not having that bigo rubber mount in the middle.
