Does our engine have a name?

Chevy = LT1/LT4/LS1/LS2/LS6/LS7.... you get the idea. FYI, these are all RPO codes.
2005+ Mustang GT = ????
2005+ V6 = ????

There must be a code for this engine. What would that be??

And while I'm at it, what does "S197" mean and what is it's origin?

Ford doesn't need no stinking designations!!!

I've never heard any designations other than the trim level of Mustang (ie. GT, V6, Cobra, GT500)...

Lets make something up and start a trend?

I believe S197 is a frame designation and the engine code is 281 (the engine displacement)...

I don't think Ford has ever had a code (LS1, LT1) for a Mustang motor.

I could be wrong....

The WInding Road has a video tour of the Flat Rock AAI facility, and on one of the lifts, it was spraypainted "S-197". The video editor added that it was the code-name for the new Mustang platform (like FOX or SN95 for the 79-04 Mustangs, or Panther for the 79-present Crown Victoria).

As for the engine name, I too would like to know if there is a code name for it besides "4.6 3V V8". I thought I heard someone refer to it as the Terminator engine.

"Terminator" refers to the '03/'04 Cobras that came factory equiped with the supercharger.

S-197 is the body designation for the new cars; like Fox, SN95, and New Edge were previously.

The only "name" that I've heard regarding our engines is "3 valve" or 3V. Although this applies to other vehicles in Ford's lineup, no one really talks about them in the same sense of the word as they do about Mustangs.

Previously there was the "Boss" engine name for the Boss cars and the "R-Code" moniker for the Mach 1's.

What was "New Edge"? I've heard someone refer to a Mustang GT as an "Edge GT"

ETA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Edge
It looks like even the Crown Vics/Panthers got New Edge styling in 1998 (triangular tail lamps, etc...) IMHO I thought this concept was pretty **** good since many foreign manufacturers draw upon the same styling cues.

We need a name for the 3V engine! The 3V breathed new life into the modular lineup and finally demonstrated that Ford (using the VCT) could keep up with the OHC tech that its Japanese competitors have been using (VVTi/VTEC) for awhile.

"New Edge" was the '99 to '04 Mustangs- with the harder body lines and newer lights, etc. I thought it looked real good too- I owned a '03 GT and a '04 Mach 1!!

I guess I just refer to our engines as a "3-valve".

Maybe it could be called the H motor.
H being the 8th digit in the VIN for the GT's and the 8th digit usually refers to the engine.
