Custom intake options?
2 Attachment(s)
OK I need some help from the custom fabricating types out there in mustang source land please. I have a frpp supercharger kit on my '09 bullitt, and I would like to use the stock cai instead of the pos that came with the supercharger. To do this, I need some sort of custom piece fabricated and I have some questions. Would it have to be aluminum? If yes, then should I worry about heat, because I'm replacing plastic parts. Would the stock bullitt cai and filter support 375-400rwhp, which is my modest goal. Here are photos of the two intakes, and it turns out, if you flip the bullitt filter upside down, the mass air meter section points right at the throttle body on the supercharger. Thanks for any and all input/brainstorming/etc.

Since you're replacing plastic parts, the replacement wouldn't have to be aluminum. As far as the stock intake, I've seen the stock GT unit support 400 rwhp with a Saleen blower so I would think that the stock Bullitt system would work just as well / better with your Whipple. My suggestion though would be to use the system supplied with the supercharger, at least to get you started. After all, it was a designed system. You would not want to mess much with moving the MAF to a different location unless you're going to have it custom tuned on a dyno by a reputable tuner.

I guess that's a non intercooled Whipple? Mine has a nice external conical filter and housing. Oh, I see there's no intercooler coolant reservoir. I'd be careful because any change may require a tune.

Thanks Tom. I would prefer to have the custom intake piece made from plastic or similar, but wasn't sure if fabrication would be significantly easier and cheaper with aluminum. I've been driving it as installed by the dealer since May with the closed intake and it makes around 350rwhp with the very rich frpp stock tune. I think there is some power/efficiency potential there without going intercooled. Plus I want my bullitt intake in my bullitt, not on my garage shelf. I am planning on dyno tuning when I get this system together. Just trying to figure out what my options are right now regarding material. Carbon fiber would be cool, but pehaps cost prohibitive. :dunno:
