CAI KNN vs....??!?

I currently have a knn CAI ,so Im wondering if theres any brand to consider to change it for it...

texastboneking Apr 22, 2012 11:35 PM

Why are you unhappy with it? What are you looking for in a cai? (If you say "MOR POWAR!!!" I'm gonna mock you...)

Victorfriessen Apr 22, 2012 11:41 PM

I want more throttle response,it didnt seem to improve from stock to knn

texastboneking Apr 22, 2012 11:42 PM

Year of vehicle?

You sir need a tune.. not a cai. The factory tune has a parameter for throttle responce that is really conservative for all types of drivers. Get a Sct tune and problem solved :nice:

But I do hav a tune, and it still doesnt get near to what Im used to with my 2005 corvette, or are mustangs just like that? Would headers improve it to?

Corvettes rev real easy.. something about ls style engines love to rev.. overhead can engines tend to rev a little slower due to the amount of rotating mass involved. Now I haven't seen your car and you might actually have slow responce for a mustang. Is your tune a custom tune or just a tuner with a preset tune?

Flagstang Apr 23, 2012 12:38 AM

have you cleaned your TB? What tune? What fuel are you running?

BradGT Apr 23, 2012 03:25 AM

If you have an sct already, look up Brenspeed and get a 93 race tune, I had to get use to the throttle response being so quick, I still sometimes squeal the tires on accident leaving a light

I currently have a SCT with a bama tune and Im running 91 octane gas, also I do have detroit rockers installed,do cams make it slower to?

Rockers? You mean lockers right?
Cans really shouldn't effect your rev speed that much.. the tune is the biggest problem with the throttle responce.

Now I'm not experienced with aftermarket larger throttle bodies (cause I don't see a point for them unless your boosted) but my buddy swears it makes the rev time much faster. Says the throttle responce is much more snappy

The cams are called detroit rockers, but thanx for the info, first thing is gona try a diferent tune

Ooooohhh. Lol. I've only heard of Detroit locking rear diffs.. didn't realize they made cams.. must not be too common.

I'm gonna safely bet the tune is your issue

Detroit Rockers are Brenspeed cams. NA or supercharged versions.

If I recall correctly, there's actually some deadspace physically built into the pedal. The stock tune has terrible response. If you didn't feel a difference, then I'd definitely send BAMA an email or give them a call. Also make sure that you're using the "Race Tune", and not the "Street Tune."

Victorfriessen Apr 23, 2012 01:47 PM

Im uploading the race tune just now and lets cee what difference it will make

JerryG2163 Apr 28, 2012 10:28 AM

Since you have cams installed, they will actually have a negative effect on the lower end of the powerband. In fact most places will make a recommendation for different gearing to compensate for the difference in power. In a NA setting I would think you need 3.73s or above to get a better response off the line. Some places recommend at least 3.90s or 4.10s due to the difference. I would check into that first because the tune won't fix the powerband distribution.
