Ok, so for those of you who have been following my header/x-combo escapade...I decided to change it up.

To recap-
K&N intake
JBA shorty headers
Bassani Xpipe with removeable hiflo cats
no mufflers, straight pipes

At first, i had it with the off road pipes in.

Off road pipes

this morning, I replaced the offroad pipes with the hiflow cats. The best way I can describe it is...less raspy, just as loud, but a more muscly sound.

Hi Flow Cats

Sounds good. I've been thinking about going with x pipe for a while now but have been worried about how loud it would be with straight pipes. How big of a difference is there between shorty headers and the stock headers?

ooooo this is bad. They both sound really good, and I really like the rawness of the off road version. I think it is irritatingly loud in person though... its hard to tell from the video. My new concern is how much different the H pipe is from the X. This is an X pipe, and I REALLY like it. But I have heard H pipes i REALLY like. I think it depends on the video.

Dan, where in CA are you?

Im in the San Francisco Bay Area and I roam the streets of San Mateo County. No other daily driven car sounds like mine around here.

Thanks for the vids. I have been saving up to get the hi-flow cat legs from Bassani. I bought just the off-road x-pipe without the cats because I was sure I'd want the offr-road setup. But, after having it for weeks now, I don't like it one bit. Way too much rasp. I think this car definitely needs cats. And those hi-flow cats really don't make it any less loud.

I'm with you, Ian. After reading/listening for some time now, I'm pretty much set on going with LT headers, catted X-pipe and my Loudmouths. I think the cats will provide just enough restriction to sound loud and muscle-car like!

Although running around with open headers like Dan did sounds pretty sweet too. ahaha

Don, I think that'll be one mean sounding setup.

I'll be sure to post up some video when I do it (which should be sooner rather than later).

I like the rasp, but want to cut down on the volume a bit... but I am all confused now. Too many good sounding choices. I am leaning toward the catted bassani, so I have the option of going catted or not.

you could always add in an electronic cutout pair if you really wanted that open header sound at the flick of a switch.

Actually I made several posts about that over the summer becuase my friend did it to his 5.0. But is there room to put them BEFORE the stock cats? I would love that, keep what I have now and have cutouts. Even if it meant reflashing the tune when I opened it, still it would be an easy change. Would they fit tho?

yeah the "axleback" pipe and tip was custom bent. Cost me about $250.

I too have been considering cut outs...very useful for driving arround...and then makin it quiet to go in my neighborhood. I am gonna get the car up again and take measurements/pictures this weekend.

I'm interested to see the results. I've been wanting to do this but it doesnt look like there is enough room before the cats.

Anyone have more info (maybe a link) to electric exhaust cutouts? I've never even heard of this... sounds pretty cool.
