Just wondering how does the 5 speed manual shift? It looks pretty short, like its almost down in a hole. I'm still waiting to order. I'll probably order in another month or two. tia, great sight guys, Troy

I test drove one yesterday and thought the shifter was pretty nice. It is a little longer throw than a traditional short throw shifter, but shorter than most cars stock. It shifted real smooth :nice: It is not down in a hole, its right where your hand rests with your arm on the armrest. Perfect.

i didnt ge the pleasure of driving it cuz the dealer isnt allowed to give test drives to any one without a signed contract now that it has 300 miles on it but i did sit in it and go through the gears and it is nice and short!!! very comfortable too!

Thye throw is about 50 % longer than a Tremec with a Steeda Tri-ax, but is comfortable to shift. Only if you wrap your hand around it and have it in Ist or 3rd will the bottom of your hand get pinched by the shift boot :eek:

I have the manual as well and i think it shifts just fine. This is my first manual shift car but I have not had any major problems with the gear shift. My entire family is going nuts over this car, especially my dad!!!

A reporter wrote the same thing in the local paper. I just thought he was nuts. He basically said you hit your knuckles on the hard plastic. I am not sure how that is possible.

No shifting problems here or pinched hand..... Only missed one shift in 1500 miles.... because I was eating at the time.

it shifts awesome....u dont have to reach and the clutch is nice and easy

Mine shifts fine and gets better every day. I will replace the detent spring on reverse with a weaker one. I have missed a few shifts but it was me not the car. Well pleased!!

The shifter is very comfortable, short enough. And, in perfect position to rest your hand to change stations on the radio. Great ergnomics

how is the clutch feel??? can you feel it grab, or is it like, forgive me, the "no feel clutch" in a volkswagen?? What im saying is can you feel it grab, or is it a push it in, let it out kind of rig, without any feeling??

Shifter and clutch feel great! No problems there. The power is such that the TCS kicks in early and bothers me some. Now I turn the TCS off unless it is raining or if the roads are wet. Problem solved. :nice:

Well I'm on my second day of having mine , the shifting is sweet only problem I have encountered id getting in reverse ? it is getting easier as I thing the components start to find their space and such. I have hugh hand and my knuckles don't bang on anything.

Well, it depends what you're looking for in the car. If you're looking for a good drag shifter, get Steeda's Tri-Ax Shifter, because the stock shifter for drag racing S U C K S . Way too notchy, at least in my opinion, and it's VERY tough to shift fast when the engine is torqued over.

But for everyday driving, it's just fine! :)

:lol: That is hilarious. I did that too! It only took once or twice for me to learn my lesson. I pinched my pinkie finger slamming it into second. darn that smarts!

This shifter is light years ahead of the previous years. It has a nice quick throw and is placed in a position that is readily available (no stretching for third gear).
The pinched fingers only occur because I have a tendency to let my hand hag down the backside because I am used to the taller shifter in my Cobra.

How big are you guys hands??? I"m 6'2" (with fairly big hands) and I have had NO problems pinching, unless I wrap my hands around the shifter from the back (think how your hand would sit if you were holding a cup of some kiind), which puts my hand down low. If I wrap my hand over the top of the knob, all is well and my fingers do not even come close to the edges, even with the stock shifter.

I did change to the Tri-Ax. I love the way it feels and shifts, but it DOES increase the interior noise more than I would like. I will probably give the Hurst a try in the future. I wish Steeda would make a new rubber boot for thier shifter as I think 1/2 the noise is caused by having to jam the stock rubber boot over the much larger Tri-Ax body. It takes up all the air space (the stock rubber boot is a dual boot kind of thing) in the boot and jams the lower boot up against the upper boot, which transfers noise MUCH better than the stock layout. It still doesn't bother me enough to change back to stock though. The short, crisp shifts are VERY nice!

I have to agree, I had a 94 GT and the clutch was 3 times as heavy. I got charlie horses from pushing the darn thing down, this clutch is so much light and easier to use !!
