300hp

I just got my "new" 06 GT yesterday. I was wondering what a few of the cheaper/easier performance mods are to bring the hp up to around 300 at the wheels.

CAI, custom tune, long tube headers, x pipe, axlebacks, underdrive pulleys, delete plates, throttle body (if you can get the BBK one working).

That really it, basically.

I agree with all of that except axleback and throttle body. Both give negledgable power gains when na in particular. I would also suggest a set of 4:10 gears. They don't add power but make it a lot more fun. Your best bang for the buck would be to get a cold air intake, with a tuner and a tune as a package. Check out www.brenspeed.com and www.steeda.com both have good packages.

Hey Jake, I just added Longtubes from American Racing, their catted H pipe, and I have the Airaid CAI. Got it custom tuned and I now have 302hp to the tires. No delete plates, no ud pullies, nothing else other than those 2 mods and a tune!

CAI, Offroad X-pipe and axlebacks with a custom 93 tune was 300rwhp/311rwtq.

The CAI and the catted long tube headers will definitely be the biggest bang for the buck. The CAI (JLT2 in my case) along with the require tune is very much a night and day experience. I haven't added long tubes (or removed the cats), but all the dyno numbers (and peoples seat of the pants) definitely show they are the next big (relatively low cost) bang for a naturally aspirated engine.

Yep thats really all you need, the most important part to that equation is the CUSTOM tune. I went from 272hp stock (I was told this was a bit higher than most stock GTs to start off with) to 294 when I had intake, axlebacks, and custom tune.

I got 298rwhp & 314rwtq with O/R H & "C&L Racer" intake w/ Brenspeed 93 Tune.

It's not hard to acheive 300rwhp.

So very true. I got lucky as the guy who installed mine discussed it with CR first and only hit me for $400 (which I found out from others that this was a CHEAP price).

Also, forgot to mention, with my 302rwhp, I also got 322rwtq!

Especially if you find the 'right' dyno shop.

If you want something concrete to shoot for, pick a sub 13-second 1/4 time. Much more 'real world' than a pretty dyno graph

You should check out our custom tuning and cold air intake packages. It's an easy modification, and it's like a new vehicle for between 500-600 dollars depending on what intake. I can shoot over some references if neccessary. To get 300RWHP, you can usually knock that out with CAI, Delete Plates, Long Tubes and a tune!

Feel free to PM me, email, or call if you have any questions!

I know why installation costs so much after installing them on my car last weekend, it would be alot easier on a lift than it was on jackstands.

Stupid follow up question. With all of the tuning computers ie diablo or sct, are those something you have to take it to a shop for, or can you use it at home?

Our custom tuning software cant be taken home, however you get a handheld programmer that stores your factory tune, and then 3 custom tunes so that you may switch between them. It also gives you some adjustability of basic parameters so you don't have to go back to the dyno or call your tuner for every little thing.

However, we can also email tunes to you, that you can load onto the box and then load into the car. So to answer your question, you can always receive custom tunes via email and load them and make small adjustments at home, but custom tuning software stays with the dealer.

Unless you buy a proracer package, which gives you custom tuning software from SCT with an X3, and lets you change an okay amount of parameters. However, not NEARLY enough to make a good custom tune on the newer S197 05+ Mustang GT's with drive-by-wire.

Oh, and all I'm gonna say is GO SCT! Hope that helps.

Curious if any/many are using HP Tuners for the Fords yet? In the LSX world, it affords the opportunity to change a huge number of parameters and HP Tuners released support for some Fords (Mustang included) in their v2.2.0 release in sept '07.

Just wondering as I have rarely seen a mention of it in regards to Ford tuning.

Ford tuning, SCT kind of has a monopoly. But HP tuners kind of has a monopoly on GM. However, I have been screwing around with LS edit software and I love it. Diablo has dodge on lock. It's pretty funny how it works.

Are most dyno-tune operations using the SCT Advantage III software?

A very good amount of them. If they do alot of Ford EFI tuning, most likely yes.

after doing some shopping around I see Tillman has a good deal going on the intake and tuner with 3 tunes right now. I'm just a few bucks away from buying one for my car
