This has been danced around for quite a while and never answered. What is the actual % loss from the flywheel to the wheels for our 05's?

Usually, I take it as about 15% but sometime a while back a member said (can't remember who) that Ford quoted him 12% due to a more efficient drivetrain.

Now, rwhp/rwtq is the best benchmark and I'd rather the automotive industry use that as their standard for reporting power output of vehicles, but I would like to settle this if anyone knows the answer.

15% is for the Redfire. 12% is for the rest.

Settled!

I would say, from the dynos I have seen, 18% for the AUTO GT. But, I am not certain about the Manual. It may be in the 12% based no the numbers I have seen.

How could we determine for sure short of knowing the flywheel horsepower and then dynoing the rwhp?

Dan-

You can't be sure. Don't worry about it. The ONLY thing that is important is the RWHP.

You can't run a quarter mile without a transmission, a drive shaft, a rear axle ......

That's what I thought. And I know, I was just curious if Ford had stated it somewhere.

Well, if you do the math a 12% drivelin loss would put the 05GT exactly at 300-310hp from dyno runs I have seen posted thus far, almost exactly as Ford rates it. A 15% correction puts the car at about 310-320hp. I did the math because I have a feeling this what I would find.

My guess is the car has the same 15 percent driveline loss most rwd cars do, and Ford is just backing their 300hp lie with the 12% claim for appearances sake.

You could look at things another way and ask "what significant changes have been made in the drivetrain that would reduce hp loss over previous drivetrains"? I don't really see anything....Anybody else?

Saw a letter in the Feb '05 Motor Trend...when they tested their Mustang GT on the dyno, they got about 11% loss

They figure the engine does make more than 300hp, based on the rwhp of 260+hp

God point. Should be a factor, but wouldn't account for 3 percent.

D^(&(n; and I thought I could save a couple hundred pounds of weight by removing them....
