how much better does the 1000 sound.. anyone got a sound clip haha.. dont know if it would do it justice but figured id ask

adrenalin Apr 26, 2005 01:28 PM

you must be joking. You want a sound clip, go sit in a car with the shaker 500 and then sit in one with the shaker 1000.

mister_e Apr 26, 2005 01:34 PM

Why do you want to know? Are you considering ordering and don't know whether or not to upgrade? I only got the Shaker 500 because it comes standard in the GT Premium, I would not have payed extra for it and I sure as heck would not pay the $1200 for the Shaker 1000. The Shaker 1000 is a total rip off. The only thing it has is two 8" subs and a sub-par amp and it costs $1200 more than the Shaker 500. Do you know how much aftermaket equipment you could buy for $1000? Well, let's just say you could get more than two 8" subs, a cheap amp, and crappy enclosure :P Sorry, not trying to knock anyone who got the Shaker 1000, but I just think it's a rip off.

yes i am.. i dont think i would get the 1000 after considering that...does the 500 have no sub?

jwede Apr 26, 2005 01:45 PM

I'm getting the 1000. I think it sounds good. Please consider though that I am not the type of person that will put huge speakers in my trunk, want everyone within two miles to hear my stereo, want to take the time to run a bunch of wiring and crap, change my head unit, just mess with it period.

Plus I like the idea of my stereo being covered under warranty and insurance.

The Shaker 500 has two subs in the doors. The Shaker 1000 has the door subs and two additional subs in the trunk. The Shaker 1000 would not be a bad option if the cost were a bit lower or if it came with more/better speakers than the Shaker 500. The price just isn't justifiable in my opinion. Unless you are just totally opposed to getting an aftermarket system, I would say skip the 1000.

blackhat Apr 26, 2005 02:01 PM

I opted for the 500 b/c I could not find any aftermarket manufacturer that made an in-dash 6 disc changer. I've had the ones in the trunk and no, I don't get out to change them; I'm too lazy. No need to get higher wattage imo. Why drown out the beautiful sound of the car? :D

Same here Jwede. I just wanted all available options and I dont have time or patience to screw with that stuff anymore. I want to drive the car...if it ever arrives.

kerafaith Apr 26, 2005 02:21 PM

I agree with Mister E. It's fine if you want to spend the money & don't want to go aftermarket because of the warranty. But if it were me I would stick with the Shaker 500. If I was going to spend $1,200 on a stereo I would go aftermarket. Again. JMO.

I really like the Shaker 500 in my car. I haven't had any problems with it skipping, and it plays the MP3 discs I burned with no problem. Got about 40 CD's worth on music on them, could of had more...... :nice:

I don't think the Shaker 1000 is worth it...... :dunno:

Eleanor Dreaming Apr 26, 2005 03:17 PM

I went to my dealer and tried both of them out with the same CD's a wide variety of music, befor eI placed my order. For me the 500 was plenty. I only noticed a huge difference in bass from the 1000. I didn't hear 1200.00 difference, Since I'm 44 I don't care for the boom, boom, boom that my kids like.

Enfynet Apr 26, 2005 03:37 PM

I got the standard 4 speaker system, replaced the speakers, and added a single 10" sub in the trunk for $110 less than the Deluxe->Premium upgrade ($530 vs $640, because I got leather)... The only think I don't have is the 6 disc MP3 cd player. The two 10" subs in the Shaker 1000 don't even come close to justifying a $1200 price increase. For $1200 you can get two 1000 watt subs put back there and shake your car apart.

You could at least get your facts right

That's 2 10" subs in addition to the 8" subs in the doors. And I don't know about you, but that enclosure is pretty sweet IMO. I haven't seen anyone with a "better" aftermarket solution installed on their car yet and still have trunk space left.

I got the size of the subs wrong. Big whoop. Doesn't change the fact that it's waaay overpriced. Heck, I also got the price of the upgrade wrong; it's $1,295.00 but I don't see you pointing that out :P

mustangspeeder Apr 26, 2005 04:13 PM

I'll be ordering mine with the 1000. Yes, it's probably over priced, but I'm ok with that because of the value that the rest of the vehicle holds. I like good sound, but I don't want people 3 streets down to hear it, let alone pay attention to it and want to steal it some night.

I currently have the 6 CD changer in my F-150 and absolutely love it and would not be looking into aftermarket decks at all. I like that this one would be covered by the warrenty and installed by the factory. This will be the first vehicle that I'll be getting a manual transmission in and can justify most of the price for the 1000 because the manual is $1,000 cheaper than an automatic as well.

I don't know if this is "better" as it's only 1 10" sub, but it puts out plenty of sound for me.

Kellarina Apr 26, 2005 04:40 PM

I have the Shaker 1000 and I am very happy with it. It puts out very clear sound and the bass is powerful. And if you get sick of the bass you can always turn off the Shaker Subs w/ the "No Shaker" option on the headunit. What I have noticed is I can have the volume up pretty loud and there is no distortion, you can still hold a conversation with the other people in the car while hearing them fine without shouting. Also, I've had the volume up and got out of my car and could barely hear it when the doors are shut, if at all...Which is awesome, because I hate it when those people roll up beside you and you are drowned out w/ their stereos. The car really holds the sound well. It's a good system if you don't want the hassle of aftermarket. It'll save you space in the trunk, and I think it's worth it if you have the $$. Plus, you can finance it with the car. With aftermarket systems, you aren't able to. I've had so many people say, "This is factory? Are you serious?!?!" I listen to everything, mostly alternative/rock...But it sounds great no matter what. It's not just for "ghetto cruisers"...It really does have great sound quality.

Stadifer Apr 26, 2005 04:57 PM

The only dissapointing part about the Shaker 500 is yet another bland spinach display. With the MyColor system you would think they could have been creative enough to either link them or let you set the face color on the Shaker. :bang:

adrenalin Apr 26, 2005 05:13 PM

to each their own. I got the shaker 1000 and it sounds fine to me. Are you going to win spl contests, heck no. One thing I don't like is when I do crank it, way louder than I should, you can tell the subs lose some power. Understandable because they are preventing you from damaging the subs. Eugene, you may not like it and yes I agree, you can get a lot more stuff than that. I spent over 15 years in the car audio industry and over $80,000.00 on car stereo equipment, that does not mean I am a moron for buying the shaker 1000. I am just tired of having to design and build custom enclosures for my cars and I no longer compete. Besides, now that I have lost a significant amount of hearing in my right ear I don't need an insane system. The shaker 1000 has a good amount of punch. And to clear up another thing for you. There are 2 amps mounted behind the sub enclosure. 1 amp per sub.

This one's mine Apr 26, 2005 06:36 PM

Well I just have to throw my 2 cents out there! I am glad I spent the extra 1200(ish). I got in my car and had what I liked! No need to buy stuff and pay someone that (no matter how much they say they do) could care less about your car to install it. I used to be smart enough to do it myself! Oh wait, really I just thought I was smart enough! I never got one of my cars to sound this good before but then again I didn't have any money back then either!
