Hertz Says.....
I'm flying to LA and decided to rent a Mustang (V6 not GT) and Hertz tells me that Grand Am and Olds Alero are in the same class/category (in case the Mustang is not available). Thought everyone would enjoy the laugh.

Maybe they consider the audio and interior mods to be the same.

Altoid, is that you?
Good point though... I'm sure this thread is going to be moving.
...and actually, that is a very strange class comparison. I wonder what the trunk space comparisons are. If you were traveling with more than one other person, the Mustang wouldn't exactly be the friendliest rental - especially if you brought golf clubs.
Care to elaborate?
Actually seems about right to me. What else would it be compared to as far as rental car classes and prices? It wouldn't fit against the Grand Prix, it has a bigger back seat and trunk then the Mustang. And I wouldn't think it would work in a smaller class like with a Focus. Seems in the right spot to me.

At least we are a step about the Toyota Echo.

Except for the Aztec maybe
I went on Hertz's website, the Mustang is in the Specialty Sport category along with the Grand Am and Alero. All of which have a V6 and two doors, can fit two adults and two children, 2 large suitcases and 1 small suitcase. I think you guys are forgetting what a rental car is typically used for. People use it while travelling/vacation and typically the most important thing is how many people can fit in the car and how much luggage fits in the trunk. That's how the classes get broken down.
Suggestion: Join Hertz's #1 Club. It'll cost you nothing and get you to the front of the line, actually have an option to reserve a Mustang not just that class. I've rented from them the last 3 times I went to Florida recently and I'm doing so again next week. I've gotten my mustang each time w/o a problem. They may tell you they don't have any but are actually holding out for their #1 Club members.
Give it a shot.
